amid new scenes.
At 7 o'clock the long train came to a
standstill at an uptown elation near
the Portland hotel The train now
consisted of thirteen sleeper* and a

pleasant reception we received at any

Ashland is only fifteen miles from the
California line. So near, yet so far.

mighty peak, lifting itself to a dizzy
height, the pride of all western people.

qua circle holds its session here, und
the excursionists were tuken to Ihe
Chautauqua grounds where every-

ed several selections for Ihe editors'
pleasure uud entertainment, which
was applauded a^ain and again. Ad
dresses of ecloiiie were made by ihe
mayor, and other city olllciuh, to
which several of our party responded.
Conveyances wore placed at our dis-
posal afler breakfast, and many en
Joyed a cool morning drive through
the mountains. At 11 o'clock, we
were summoned from our sight-seeing
to resume our journey. Thia place
marked the terminal point of our
j iiirney aoutii, and we now began the
return. Willi many regrets that we
can not dwell longer, we take our
leave Albany is all right. H^r peo-
ple are all right, and we shall ever
remember them.
Leaving Ashland ut 11, we were
■non in Medford, which placed us
