Young man, you had better
save some of the money you are
foolishly spending now. You
can't fool the world—people know
you are not rich. Fine clothes
and a lot of pocket change will
inly hold friends until your mon-
y is gone. Stop and think on
vour way—whither are you drift
ing? And what will you be when
get there? Be consistent
and live within your means; by;
so doing you will build friendship j
that is everlasting.

As a small boy he
ran away to sea and
at nineteen was cap'
tain and part owner of a trading vessel.
Invested savings were profitable and he sup'
ported the government with a five-million-
dollar loan in the 1812 war. Girard college
for poor boys is his monument.
There is not much variation in these stories
of men's achievements. The poor boy who works
earnestly and saves as much as possible for future
investment generally is the person who commands men
and directs great enterprises in after years.
Now is the time for you to build for the
future. Begin by depositing a part of your salary with us
this week. Get the saving habit. It will help you later.
Multiply your money in our care.

S farmers and Merchants g
known they were in town. We
asked the merchant if he didn't!
think it would pay him to adver-
tise the goods. He replied that
the people would learn about
them and buy anyway. We visit-
ed that store a few weeks later
and the merchant still had the
bulk of the goods. True a few
people found out he had the
goods—they bought what they I
needed, and maybe they told a
neighbor about the bargains but
after ail this the merchant still
has a big supply left. If he had
advertised very likely the entire
line of goods would have been
disposed of. He would have been
abl d to sell cheaper; more peo-
ple would have been drawn to his
st ire and they would have bought
other ttoods besides those adver
tised; he would have made his
firm more p ipular and conse-
quently when people thought
about merchandise they would
have aiso tbought of his store.
A* it is tlie merchant will carry
a lot of the goods referred to,
ovjr into another season and
eventually lose the protit on what
he did sell
