Komalty, O. T. 5-7-'06.
Mr. C. C. Worrall,
Hobart, Okla.,
Dear Sir: Stop sending the
Chief to Charles Miller, he has
moved to the Indian Territory.
I am living on his place. If you
will you can send the Chief to
my address and I will settle for
it when I come to Hobart. I
think it is the best county paper
I ever read. 1 like the way you
score those grand rascals you
call republicans. I am a solid
democrat. Old Texas.
Letters like this do our heart
good. We are deeply pleased
that the people appreciate our
work in giving them a good pa-
per. We are working day and
night to make it better each
week. Won't you help us?.
Good Game of Ball, But
Thomas Was Beaten.
Rain and quite eool weather
did not deter Tnomas people
from going to Hobart last Sun-
day. Over 140 excursionists join-
ed the ball team and took a day
off. The weather was quite c«>ol,
but the crowd was happy just the
same.
Hobart was cordial, but the
population evidently do not be-
lieve in Sunday ball playing.
Had it not been for the excur-
sionists the audienoe would have
been slim.
Thomas played for 40 or 60 per
cent of the gate reoeipts; the
winnidg team, of course, received
the 00 per cent. Thomas was
beaten by a score of 5 to 2 and
received $S6 gate money, the
total receipts being about $170.
McCay's Oriental band went
along and the music was enjoyed
very much. Thomas made an ex-
cellent showing of well-dressed,
well - behaved people. Ribbon
badges were worn on which were
printed: "Thomas, O. T., where
everything grows and soft water
flows. May 0, 1906."
Thomas played an excellent
game, but the boys were up
against a battery that should be
in the league. However, the
score was held down and the
game was decidedly a warm one.

Gone Visiting.
Miss Jessie Briley, the hand-
some and accommodating long
distance operator of our local
phone system has gone for avis-
it with honae folks in Memphis.
Tenn. Miss Briley's splendid
services to the long distance pat-
rons has made many friends for
the phone company. 8he is al-
ways pleasant, painstaking and
accommodating. The Chief joins
Miss Jessie's host of friends in
wishing her a happy and pleas-
ant visit and safe return to Ho-
bart.
Did He Get Drowned?
A gentleman who has been
looking for a location in Okla-
homa asked us the old question
about rain in the territory. We
sincerely hope that he was not
out doors this afternoon and got
drowned. Does it rain in Okla-
homa? Take a look at the crops
in Kiowa county.
Another Train
To Mangum.
It is announced by J. 8. Mc-
Nally, of Oklahoma City, division
passenger agent of the Rock Is-
land, that on June 3 another pas-
senger train will be put on be-
tween El Reno and Mangum,
thus doubling the passenger
service on that branch. It is ex-
pected also that another train
will be put on the Enid and Ana-
darko branch of the Rock Island.
Some Kiowa Corn.
We have added to our agricul-
tural exhibit some fine samples
of corn given us and raised by
Mr. Dossett near Cooperton, and
Jim Hamilton of Stokes. Jf any
oountry can beat 'em "show
us." In many of the farm yards
of southwest Kiowa we saw hun-
dreds of bushels of last years'
corn crop ptill being held by the
farmers. Likewise a good many
bales of cotton lhat has not been
marketed.
We are informed by Mr. Gold,
who returned from Wichita,
Kansa, Friday, that frost in that
section did much damage to the
fruit crop, and vegetables of all
kinds are killed. Mr. Gold
thinks Hobart the only place.

Established a New Office
Mr. Herbert S. Ellison, the op-
tician and optometrist has open-
ed a new office in the Neff build-
ing, one stairway west of the
postoffice, Mr. Ellison is a large
property owner in Kiowa county
and this is his home. He has
been practicing his proffession in
Hobart and adjoining cities and
has established a fine patronage.
His office will be fitted with all
the modern appliances for meas-
uring and fitting spectacles.
Mr. J. H. Phillips, th3 Wells
Fargo expressman informs us
that he has a better position off-
ered him at Chickasha and that
he will go there and continue to
work for the company at that
place. Mr. T. E. llaney will
his place here. We are sorry to
lose Mr. Phillips from our city,
as he is a splendid citizen and
good business man. Our best
wishes accompany him.
\eiv County Depositories
The Bank of Lone Wolf has
filed bond and made a county
depository. Likewise the Far-
mers And Merchants Bank of
Mountain View.
Put in Good Licks
For Hobart.
Dick Browning and Mr. Beav-
ers, of Kiowa county were dele-
gates to Enid last week at the
the Red Men's grand council.
They both did yeoman service in
working to bring the next grand
council to Hobart., Dick was
chosen some high official in the
order, the N.-R. calls it Mis-
She-Ne-Wah, ws hope this is
correct. The I. O.R. M. is a big
thing in Oklahoma and iB com
posed of men who do things and
when they come to town, the
town knowB it. The represent'
atives that secured this big meet
ing for our city are surely enti
tied to the thanks of all.
The high «chool annual will
be issued tomorrow. This is a
pamphlet description of our
schools and school work of the
past year. It is one of the moBt
interesting publications that has
ever been issued in Hobart.
The annual contains cuts of our
teachers, scholars, debating
club, athletic association and
many others of like interest. It
has been edited by a talented
corpB of editors.
The Hobart Chief job room
has done the work of printing
that of course guarantees the
i highest grade of artistic work
manship.

Texas Farmers
located in the Panhandle
Country constitute a vast
proportion of those who are out of debt, possess an abundance
of all that is necessary to comfort and easy hours, and own
BANK ACCOUNTS.
Those who are not so fortunate should profit by past ex-
periences and recognize that these conditions are possible in
THE PANHANDLE
as no where else for the reason that no other section now offers
Really High-Class Lands at Low Prices
and that the Agricultural and Stock-farming possibilities of
this section are the equal of, aud in some respects better than
three to five times higher priced property located elsewhere.
In a word: Many Mannificient Opportunities are still open
here to those possessing but little money, but prompt investi-
gation and
QUICK ACTION
are advisable, as speculators have investigated and are fast
purchasing with a knowledge of quickly developing oppor-
tunities to sell to others at greatly increased prices.
