DECORATION DAY.
Decoration Day was fittingly
observed by tho people of this
placo on Wednesday last. Bun-
ting was profusely displayed
from business houses. In the
afternoon a largo number of
people in carriages headed by
tho Cushing Band proceed-
ed to the New Zion Cemetery
where the beautiful and sol-
emn rites of tho occasion were
•rcisod. To watch tho griz-
zled veteran soldiers placing
wreaths upon the graves of their
lead comrades, or fioWers streWfi
by loving hands upon the rest-
; plate of loved ones, to watch
tho grief stricken mother Or wid-
ow alorio in tears by the gravd
of ono who had been taken from
her, was a sight that left
few dry eyes amohg those
present. The sweet solemn
music of tlid Band added greatly
to tho affocting cermony. As the
people" slowly left the silent city
ho soft notes floating on the air
louud echo in the heart of each
that he was "Nearer my God to
