SMOOTH SOAP SWINDLERS
Atnto for Soap Not on Markot Aro
Soiling Ordora'
Be ware of alleged soap can-
vassers who desire to sell you
coupons redeemable at the corner
grocery
A buncp game of an entirely
new variety is being attempted
upon Enid housewives according
to reports received at the police
station 1 1
It is said a number of meg
claiming to be representatives' of
the El R Davis Soap company of
Chicago Illinois have employed
a number of canvassers to sell
coupons in the city which they
state may be redeemed at prac-
tically every grocery store in
town In reality according to
the authorities the-coupons are
absolutely worthless and no com-
pany of that name exists
The system of the alleged
swindlers is as follows:
A canvasser calls at your home
offering for sale for the sum of
twenty five Cents acoupon Which
they claim will be redeemable at
the grocery for soap to the extent
of two dollars You present the
coupons at the store and they
only laugh at you— “never heard
of the soap”
“We are doing this only fot ad-
vertising purposes we lose money
upon every deal but we want to
get the name of our goods before
you” is the talk the canvasser is
alleged to put up
It is said a number of resident
female canvassers not being con
versant with the illegitimate
tactics" had been employed by
the “soap kings” Inquiry by
the officers at every grocery store
in Enid elicited the information
that no such soap had ever been
heard of The representative of
a large soap manufacturing com-
pany who is at the Loewen Jtold
the officers that it - was an old
scheme a number of the promot-
ers of which have recently been
sent to the Kentucky and other
penitentiaries— Enid Eagle 1
