OHI The City Well
They that laugh iMt laugh long
et is an age-old saying and tbia ia
true with the well that has been re
cently put down for the town by Mr
Foramoo end a band of workers
Water was found at about 20 or more
feet but those In charge thought that
by going farther down -that more
water could be found The proved to
be true but the quantity was not so
great as they had hoped and when a
depth of 30 ft was reached It was de-
cided not to dig any more but to
tunnel In from the creek so that
there would be plenty of water from
that source in case the well would not
furnish enough Tnis was done and a
Hlterar was prepared so that the water
as It comes from tht creek is clear
and pretty But it seems that the
creek will not have to be ufed except
in case of extreme emergenfcy arising
for the well Is developing into a real
well of good water The longe it
sfands it seems that t lie faster the
water runs hi and i(ls thought tbut
we will hare plenty of water And
it Is soft water too and good to
drink

Common Sense
By Dr Frank Crane
Don’t
Here are some don’te that may be
useful
Don’t grumble gossip or argue
Don’t offend unnecessarily don’t
contend and don’t brag
Don’t insinuate retaliate or extg-
gerate Don’t depreeate calumniate or re-
sent Don’t ridicule disparage or coerce
Dn’t haggle wrangle or use un-
necessary words
Don’t misjudge slander or era-
barress Don’t dissemble vilify or assail
Here are some things that Gren-
ville Klelser says to d-
It is good to praise to enjoy
contirm to approve and to appreciate
We should also serve reverence
commend agree and admire
Every man should resolve to
pleuse others as much as possible to
encourage to sympathize and reci-
procate He should learn to yield to
accede to help and to recommend
It pays to esteem to give to hon-
or and fo stimulate also to respect
to befriend gladden and accommo-
date To these may be added to uplift
compliment strengthen comfort
and inspire
These may be but platitudes but
they are the sort of tilings that if
we will learn to do them will be to
our profit:
The mind also may bo compared to
a garden: There are certain weeds
that we should cast out
They are such a pride envy im-
patient fear resentment selfish-
ness There are also certain plants that
we must carefully cultavate These
are kindness goodness love humili-
ty reverence and righteousness
Only by close attention to the
mind’s garden and by careful tilling
we shall have fruit and fragrance iu
our lives ' '

Last Tuesday while Mrs John
Norton was burning some trash in
the back yard at her home some one
got excited and turned in the fire
alarm with the result that Fletcber
Wikerson went running down the
street hollowing Fire! aud ofcourse
every one went that oould go only to
find a false alarm We are glad
that nothing was wrong but if there
had been any thing nerious action
would have been hindered from the
fact that some one had been meddling
with the fire hose and had placed it in
such a position that there was
difficulty in getting things in readi-
ness All hands should be kept off the
hose and cart so that they can be
used when necessary If the fire
fighting tools are not left as they
should be there is always trouble and
ffiflybe a house will be damaged
serlbusly on account of some one
