received from the municipal elections
throughout the state Indicate that the
prohibition element has male decided
gains In Nebraska Only thirty or
forty towns had been beard from up
to ten o’clock Tuesday night but of
this number about two-thirds bad gone
“dry" and more” than half of these
were “wet” last year So far none of
those which were "dry" heretofore are
reported as voting “wet” Lincoln the
state capital voted to retain saloons
by a majority of 174 In a total vote of
7800 This was at a special election
no city officials being elected this year
The Lincoln excise board recent-
ly issued - an order restricting the
sale of liquor to the hours be-
tween 7 a m and 7 p m South Oma-
ha which has been Democratic Tues-
day elected a Republican mayor There
was no election in Omaha
Topeka Kan — Municipal elections
were held In many Kansas towns Tues-

cratic Chicago — In the local option elec-
tions held by 1200 townships In 84
counties of Illinois outside of the city

came absolutely anti-saloon territory
and approximately 1500 or about one-
half of the total number of saloons In
that territory were voted out of busi-

the house was responsible for not re-

and Representative Dalzell of that
committee be said had told him sev-
eral weeks ago that they would not
vote for free wood pulp but Mr Rid
der expressed the opinion that they
would change their minds before con-
gress adjourned In view of the strong
sentiment In and out of congress op-
posed to them Mr Rldder said that
there would be no trouble about get-
ting a free wood pulp measure
