Miss Hooper a veteran cafe-
teria supervisor having had con-
siderable experience before she
came to Putnam City school
where she had 6 years of expe-
rience as cafeteria supervisor
Many are looking forward to
her return
Beginning next year a new
assistant principal and two one-
half day counselors will be
added to the new high school
in the new building In the new
high school building the ninth
grade will be added—thus there
will be grades nine through
twelve in the new high school
building
Ralph Downs was mined as
assistant high school principal:
Mr Hugh Coonfield was em-
ployed to be high school coun-
selor one-half day and teach
math one-half day Mrs Jua-
nita Kidd was also named as
one-half day counselor and Eng-
lish teacher one-half day
The Riverdale school located
at Reno and Meridian which
was annexed to the Putnam City
schools two years ago will be
closed indefinitely at the end of
this school year Two teachers
were teaching four grades this
year at Riverdale However the
enrollment was held down to
25 in each room Yet it was
necessary to send 36 children
from the original Putnam City
school district in order to have
enough to maintain school there
Since the high school students
wove into the new building it
will leave sufficient space for our
elementary and Junior high pu-
pils at the central location it
was considered best education-
ally and economically by the
superintendent and board of
education to close this two room
school and send these children
to the main elementary center
on NW 39th street Riverdale
'school was established and held
the first term of school in 1899
This is another one of the old
one- and two-room schools in
America that is gradually pass-

CARE TO
By Eleanora Houser Rutledge
-
Did you ever have a play
house and keep it spotless clean?
- Or play hully gully? Or
touch your hot tongue to a
frozen screen?
Did you ever catch the foamy
water after a quick rain and play
like it was cream?
Were you ever aggravated and
teased till you just had to
scream?
Remember the ising glass cur-
tains we used on our old Fords
And wood was stacked be-
side our fence for our use by
the cords
And the times that you went
skating on the icy frozen farm
ponds?
And almost -everybody was
much too poor to buy bonds?
My sister danced the chicken
scratch and the ire broke back
in 1921
Twas then that everybody
seemed to think that they had
fun
The parties all were held in
homes our folks served ice cream
and cake
Ruby rings were oh so popu-
lar but half of them were fake
Our hair we rolled in long
white rags In our chic attire
we looked like gunny bags
We rode our horses to and
fro and never did know the
transportation was too slow
Our homes were so unmodern
we threw our dishwater out the
door
We killed our pigs and rend-
ered the lard We didn't know
we were poor!
What happened to all the
radishes the red and icicle
white?
T b e cucumbers tomatoes
lettuce and such green onions a
delight
Did you sleep between wooly
blankets in a bedroom icy cold?
And after lights were all
turned out sing loud and brassy
bold?
Did you ever forget to bring
in the cobs or the little kindling
sticks?
And hear y our precious
Mother say "Now we're in a
fix"?
Did you ever let the bucket
drop in the deep open dug
well?
Or hang your head inside as
far as you could and holler and
yell?
Did you ever step on a rusty
nail or carry foamy milk in a
large tin pail?
Did you ever crawl under the
porch and dip stolen snuff or
smoke a cornsilk torch?
How many agates did you
win in the exciting marble
game?
Did you ever play mumble-
peg squatting then wen stand-
ing you were lame?
Did you ever have to wait
and watch your elders while
they ate?
Did you ever have tobacco
smoke blown in your ear for an
ache?
Or have you ever been swat-
ted by the handle when you
stepped on a garden rake?
Did you ever eat ripe water-
mellon and spit the seeds real
far?
And did you ever push and
push on thlt cussed stubborn
Did you ever crank a car and
it kicked? Or discover your
prize flower had been picked?
Did your teacher ever lick
you and it wasn't your fault?
Did you ever secretly wish
you could lock her in a tight
vault?
Did you ever feel so misun-
derstood you wished that you
could die?
And go to the two holer and
lock the door and cry?
