After 22-years service and
working with four county
commissioners, Betty Parks
will retire on September 16 as
secretary at the Osage
County District No. 1 barn.
Parks started her career
under Charles Wells but also
served under Harold
Murnan, two terms under
Bill Sweeden and the last ten
years under Clarence
Brantley.
"Bettylhas been an asset to
the county," said Brantley. —
"She knows the county busi-
ness well."
"We started out in that little
building right down there
where the tire shops is at, it
was brand new," said Parks.
Parks knows Osage County
well, born and raised in
Skiatook, lived in Avant,
raised her children in
Barnsdall before coming to
Pawhuska.
Parks had four boys, losing
one to a hay hauling accident
while he was attending
school in Pawhuska, and
enjoys her five granddaugh-
ters and twin grandsons.
"I'm going to miss the peo-
ple," said Parks but she also
related there’s a lot of things
going on in the county she is
interested in seeing how they
turnout.
"Clarence is making a lot of
changes, has made a lot of
changes and there's still a lot
to be done at the fair-
grounds," said Parks
Parks has also worked in
the Osage Tribal Casino in
Hominy. She started out
part-time and her time
almost worked into another
full-time job during her
three-year employment.
"1 worked there from the
day they opened until the
15th of April."
Parks was quick to give a
one word answer when
asked what she plans to do
when she retires - "travel."
