Moreover, as Jesus himself
pointed out, man does not live

to be fed as well as his belly.

This Week’s Sermonet
by
w. L. Weimer, Jr., Pastor
First Baptist Church
Sixth and Prudom
Can anti-Christian forces attack your community without
attacking you, or are you so completely identified with Christ
that his enemies would have to strike at you before they could
get to him’ If persecution should come to us “for Christ’s
sake.’' it would therefore become a sign that we are in some
measure vitally associated with him in somebody ‘s mind
Today, this may mean that we shall be exposed to ridicule,
sarcasm, harsh criticism, contempt. For some Christians in our
world to today hatred of Christ may confront them with the
alternatives, renounce Jesus or be exiled, tortured, imprisoned,
or killed
We need a devotion to something worth dying for Many
wear their religion lightly. Many would tolerate no in-
convenience or discomfort for the sake of anybody or
anything The primary “cause" for them is as with the
character in Gone with the Wind who said, pointing to himself:
“The cause’ Rhett Butt Butler is the cause ” On the other
hand, an all-out devotement to something worth that
devotement brings meaning to the lives of many Christians We
nominate Jesus and all he would have us stand for as worth
dying for, and therefore worth living for
It costs to be loyal. It costs to be loyal to the best we know, to
friends, to loved ones, to the church, to Jesus It also costs to be
loyal to the Cause of evil, and in the end it always costs much
more A life without loyalties is like a kite without string or
tail- blown about in the wind and finally broken up
somewhere on a post or in a tree.
