The Pawhuska Golfing team,
disqualified after the first day
of play, ended with a score good
enough for 4th place in the re-
gional golf tournament at Pry-
or Tuesday and Coach Mel Core
said he felt they would have easi-
ly taken second place had they not
been disqualified. Coach Core
explained that the announcement
that the Huskies were disquali-
fied effected their moral and
that they might have played bet-
ter the second day had they
not known their efforts were al-
most useless.
Apparently the error which
resulted in the disqualification
of the Huskies was at least part-
ly the fault of the committee
handling the tournament. Coach
Core explained that it involved
Rule 38.2 and that in the tourney
the players kept score cards
for each other. The players keep-
ing the score cards are respon-
sible for correct scores on each
hole but the committee is re-
sponsible for totaling up the
score.
In the error Monday, the play-
er keeping Pat Carter’s score
card had the correct scores on
each hole but made an error
in totaling up the score. This -
the adding up of the score -
should have been done by the
committee rather than by the
player. However, since the score
was totaled and card signed by
Carter, the Huskie team wasdis-
qualified.
Okmulgee’s team won the team
event, the 2-ball event and the
individual. Miami was second and
Pryor was third. Roth Cochran
had tied with two other players
in the individual scoring with a
78-80 score but lost out in a
playoff and came out fourth in
that bracket.

Havlicek
Poses Big
Problem
By LARRY ELDRIDGE
Associated Press Sports Writer
BOSTON (AP) — The Los An-
geles Lakers figure they have to
find a way to offset the all-
around play of John Havlicek
tonight if they are to even their
National Basketball Association
final playoff series with the Bos-
ton Celtics.
"Our big problem is combat-
ing Havlicek’s versatility,” Lak-
er Coach Bill van Breda Kolff
said Tuesday as his club worked
out while awaiting the second
game of the best-of-7 series.
One part of the problem is
that Havlicek is equally at home
in the front or backcourt. Anoth-
er is that the tireless Celtics
captain seems able to run full
speed virtually the full 48 min-
utes.
Operating from his accus-
tomed sixth man role during
most of the regular season,
Havlicek still logged more min-
utes than any other Celtic ex-
cept player-Coach Bill Russell
while leading the team in scor-
ing and assists.
Used as a starter during the
playoffs, he has averaged 44
minutes per game in Boston’s 13
games in the Eastern semi-fi-
nals and finals, leading the
team by wide margins with a
25.3 point per game scoring av-
erage and 102 assists.
The former Ohio State star
kept it up in Sunday’s 107-101
opening victory over the Lak-
ers, scoring 19 points and put-
ting on another dazzling all-
around performance.
The championship final play-
off in the American Basketball
Association resumes tonight
with Pittsburgh at New Orleans.
The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1.
