WATCH!
The Lord Jesus urged His disciples to watch" for
His return Watch ye therefore for ye know neither
the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh"
(Matthew 25:13).
The watching was not to be with fear, but with ex
pectancy, for He said we should be "like men that
wait for their lord that, when he cometh and
knocketh, they may open to him immediately" (Luke
12 36)
It seems that Christ was trying to get through to His
disciples the importance of living on tiptoe with ex-
pectancy, that we should watch eagerly for His return
When lov ed ones have promised a visit, it affects our
plans our priorities our activities Then as the hour
approaches, how eagerly we watch and listen for the
first sound of their approaching car! When we look as
confidently for "the blessed hope and the glorious
appearing of our Lord, it affects our manner of living
too It puts a provisional aspect on all our plans We
welcome the prospect that they may be gloriously
interrupted at any moment by His return
Jesus warned against becoming preoccupied with
the cares of this life to the extent that the day of His
appearance would take us unaware It is unto them
that look for him that "he shall appear the second
time Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but
let us watch
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven
with a shot with the voice of the archangel, and with the
trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first
then we which are alive and remain shal I be caught up
together with him in the clouds to meet the Lord in the
air and so shall we ever be with the Lord "
This glorious hope is a vital part of our Christian
faith and heritage Let us keep it alive in our
hearts by watching with lifted hopes, for "your
redemption draweth nigh "
