COMMENTS
Mail application to Box 290
Newkirk Chamber of Commerce Newkirk, Oklahoma 74M7
totaled 9.79 inches
July finally came through with at least part of the rainfall
which should have been delivered during the preceding six
months of this year and soaked the Pawhuska area with a
whopping 9 79 inches of rainfall It was the wettest July since
1904 when 10 25 inches was recorded
The figure above was from the records of the Pawhuska Water
and Light Plant and compared with 9 54 recorded by Henry
Villasenor at his home on the east side of town Olin Kliewer,
keeping records at the OSU Research Lab southeast of
Pawhuska, came up with 9 02 inches there but had only 8 46
inches at his home on the north side of Paw huska
The difference in measures illustrates the spottiness of much
of the rainfall during July when some areas received quite
heavy rains while others, only a few miles away, were missed
completely
Villasenor pointed out that average rainfall for July is 3 06
inches and that the deficit in his records for the year was cut to
3 37 At the Water and Light Plant the accumulated deficit was
sliced from a minus 10 60 inches to minus 3.87 inches
All of the first six months of 1972 were below normal in rain
fall, totaling only 7.53 inches or more than two inches less than
was received in July alone
Wettest July on record was in 1899 when 1129 inches was
recorded In July of 1959a total of« 28 inches was received and
in July of 1961 a total of 8.32 was collected
Normal rainfall for August is 3 12 inches
