The week of the young child is an annual
celebration established by the National Association
for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
During this entire, month, emphasis on the early
childhood development is observed.
The most important time in a child's life is between
the ages of birth and eight years old. Speech, hearing,
sight, emotional attachment,-
intelligence, and memory are all
developing during this time.
Environment plays a continual role
in a child's development. Any person
who has contact with a young child
can contribute to that child's
development in a positive way.
For instance, touching babies in a
loving way can increase digestive
juices and reduce stresses. Talking
or reading to a child can increase the
child's vocabulary, and exposing
children to music can increase mem-
ory and promote learning. These are
just a few examples of. There are
many day to day activities between
adults and children that aid in the child's
development.
During the month of April, we would like to
encourage everyone to recognize the little ones in
their lives. Read a book to a child, tell them a story,
play on the playground, listen to music, and give kids
lots of hugs and kisses. You are contributing to their
future. Also, this is a time to acknowledge the
teachers, mentors, and caregivers that work w ith chil-
dren on a daily basis. A special Thank You goes out
to all of you w ho lovingly take on this responsibility.
During this month licensed child care providers
will be engaged in many activities promoting
children. All caregivers are encouraged to make
posters of their facilities and post them w ith local
businesses. Noble county has many scheduled
events, such as a visit from Scrubby Bear, a program
presented by AmeriCorps (American Red Cross),
the annual children's parade, special story time at the
library, and visits to the local grade school Various
