Bitter Sweet Autumn...
Summer is gone and autumn is upon us. As we pack away our
bathing suits and unearth our sweaters from moth balls, the days
become shorter and there is a chill in the air.
Autumn is a bitter sweet time for many of us. Summer vacation is
over and it is time to get back to work. Yet, it is also the season for
hayrides, apple butter making, and leaping into giant piles of crackling
leaves.
God, in His loving kindness, has eased this transition from sum-
mer into winter with the beautiful color display of autumn. How iron-
ic...though the leaves of summer die and fall to the ground, they
become even more beautiful in death.
As we come to God in worship this week, let us thank Him for the
beauty of autumn. May we also remember that through faith and the
love of God, we too may have a more beautiful life after death than we
have ever known in life on earth.
