No Wedding Bells,
No Wedding Bills
By Abigail Van Buren
1979 by Chicago Tribune N Y News Synd Inc
DEAR ABBY. Our daughter, Karla, is 20. and Bill, her
boyfriend, la 22. They've gone together for nearly two years
and have juat announced that they plan to live together for
about a year. Then, if they are compatible, they'll get
married. 5
Bill's parents seem to approve of this, but I do not. 1 think
k ’ immoral *nd that they would be living in sin My hus
band doesn t really approve of the idea, but says if it doesn't
work out it will be easier on Karla than a divorce
Abby. I say if Karla and Bill love each other and want to
live together they should get married now! Karla is the
youngest of three daughters. Her sisters both had beautiful
church weddings without any "compatibility tests"
beforehand, and they are happily married. 1 promised Karla
• lovely church wedding, too, but told her if she lives with
for a year, a wedding would be a mockery, and not to ex
pert us to give her one. Am I wrong to feel this way?
SYRACUSE MOTHER
DEAR MOTHER: You are entitled to feel any way you
wish but children who are of age (and self -supporting) have
a right to determine their own lifestyles. If you believe a
church wedding would be a mockery, it's your right to
refuse to foot the bill for one.
DEAR ABBY: Someone asked you whose name should be
listed first, the man's or woman's, when couples sign
something. You said "Ladies first," but I think the reverse is
true.
I ve made a list of some famous couples, and found many
more in which the man's name comes first. Examples:
Adam and Eve
Romeo and Juliet
Sonny and Cher
Napoleon and Josephine
Donny and Marie
Anthony and Cleopatra
William and Mary (the college)
Punch and Judy
Burns and Allen
Jack and Jill
On the other hand, I could come up with very few famous
couples in which the woman's name is mentioned first.
Namely:
Bonnie and Clyde
Frankie and Johnny
Maggie and Jiggs
How come?
ED IN VAN NUYS
DEAR ED: When you're right, you’re right. Beats me.
Readers?
DEAR ABBY: This is not a prank. I have heard there is a
place in Texas where I could send cremated ashes to be
made into pottery If there is such a place, one's ashes would
not have to be kept in a container and possibly lost.
My husband and I plan to be cremated, and this would be
an ideal solution for our remains.
Can you help us, please?
MAKING PLANS
DEAR MAKING: I am not aware of such a place But if
one exists, I’ll surely be advised.

Chicken & Microwave
Use your microwave oven to
cut in half the time required to
cook a chicken when the meat is
to be chopped and used in soup,
casseroles or salad. The Na-
tional Broiler Council recom-
mends placing the chicken, cut
in parts, in a 3-quart covered
casserole with 2 cups of water.
Microwave at medium high 25
to 30 minutes, depending on
weight, until chicken is tender
and easily removed from bones.
Chicken Parts
The National Broiler Council
suggests keeping two plastic
bags in your freezer into one
put chicken necks, backs and
giblets i except livers) until you
have enough to make a pot of
stock for soup or seasoning. Ac-
cumulate chicken livers in the
second bag; they make an easy
and nutritious mean when sau-
teed and served on rice.
