Wildcats Keep Up
With Freedom 1st
Half, Roof Falls In
Playing a tough Freedom team,
the Covington - Douglas Wildcats
managed to throw- a scare into the
visitors the first half of the foot-
ball game played last Friday night
However, the fast moving Free
dom team completely dominated
the second half, allowing the Wild-
cats only 11 plays on offense, to
down the Wildcats 50-18
The Wildcats started off the game
with a scoring series of play, start-
ing at their own 20 On a 4th down
and 11 yard play Roger Miller took
a pass from quarterback Lelon
Schoeling to put the Cats out in
front 6-0 The extra point attempt
failed.
Freedom came right back, from
their own 14 to take the lead 8-6.
In the second quarter Freedom
crossed the goal line from 1 yard
out to add eight more points. 166
Taking Freedom's kick and re
turning it to their own 25 yard line,
the Wildcats fast back. Bill Steinert
took the ball on the first p ay and
scampered 65 yards for C-Ds sec-
cod touch doom The extra point
attempt failed again, making the
score 16-12, Freedom
Freedom again returned the ball
down the field to cross the goal line
and tacked on extra points. 24-12
Setting up the Wildcats last score
was Tom Bigby who intercepted
a Freedom pas< and returned to
the Eagles 25 yard line Two plays
later, Miller again took a Schoeling
pass in the end zone. The extra
point attempt was a failure, leav-
ing the Cats with their night's total
score. 18-24.
In the second half, Freedom dis-
covered weakness in the Wildcats
ends and proceeded to sweep a-
round them on almost every play
Coach Dwight Barney said this
week has been spent on strengthen-
ing the ends to prevent Billings
from pulling the same, tactic.
He said he felt the boys played
a good 1st halt but the defense
laid down the second half Com
menting on tonight s game (Thurs-
day) with Billings, he said We're
going to be out there to win

kinson of Oklahoma City were Sun
