using wires or tinselled cord for
kite strings a n d against flying
kites near electric power lines
If the wire is used as string for
flying kites this wire could carry
electricity from an electric line to
the hand of the person flying the

such accidents occur ea c h year

The utility representative warn-
ed kite flyers that using tinselled
cord such as that used for Christ-

Not only kites with in
strings but any kite can be dan-
gerous when flown near electric
lines Iteavis said
Once a kite becomes entangled
in an elect r I e line the wind
changing direction la lii(Oiy to
wrap the kite string around the
system of wireq pulling them to-

short occurs and either a trans-
former fuse is blown or the wires
are burned to the ground In either
case service is immodiatoly put

the exposed wires fallen to the
ground can be dangerous Reavis

entangled among electric lines
should not under any circumstanc-

Other from t ii c ground or by

the utility representative immed-

Good Things Come In Pairs
Jess Shepherd your wire chief here in Wilson
for the last three years really hit the jackpot this last
week It was announced last week that he has been
named wire chief for Hugo Oklahoma and two days
later he and Mrs Shepherd were blessed with the birth
of a daughter Linda Denise This evens up the sides in
the Shepherd household he now has two sons and two
daughters
Your new wire chief will be Charles Johnson who
comes here from Mangum We'll have more informa-
tion about Charles and Mrs Johnson later
We want to wish Jess and his fine family the best
of everything at their new home and to say it's been
nice working with him And a big welcome to Charles
and his family and we know that he'll like your town
Spirit Of Service In Action
Every now and again I hear a warm human story
about people that makes me feel pretty good I think
this one will make you feel good too
Here's what happened A man and his wife had
come to court to adopt a little girl - a German orphan
But one of the officials told the man (dressed in a
suit and sports shirt) that it was the local custom for
a man to wear a tie when appearing before the judge
in court
Protesting the tieless man said that if he were not
allowed in court now the adoption would be postponed
perhaps for months
At this point Jerry Sharp a veteran installation
foreman for Southwestern Bell who happened to over
hear the conversation removed his own tie and handing
it to the man said "Here take mine"
Well a few minutes after that the adoption pro-
ceedings were underway and the little girl had a new
family
So often it's the "little" extra things you do that
help the most
Bright Idea For Spring
Driving around Wilson the other day I suddenly
realized that the hustle and bustle of spring is with us
again
Everywhere I went—from one end of town to the
other—I saw the dreary signs of winter being replaced
by fresh new colors Color seems to be the talk of spring
Perhaps you've seen our ads in the national mag-
azines suggesting that you "Pick-A-Phone From A
Garden of Colors" It's a timely reminder that a color
extension telephone is an easy inexperive way to add
a dash of color—and time-saving convenience—to any
room in your house With nine colors to choose from
you probably won't have any trouble picking the color
phone you want
You can order yours just by calling the telephone
