MYSTERY IS UNSOLVED
LEGAL NOTICES
' IN TULSA BOY'S CASE
Mystery in the case of Paul Peck
21-year-old Tulsa student at Okla-
homa Agricultural and Mechanical
college virho Is at his home at Tulsa
with his mind blank after a jaunt
which took him- to Emporia Kan
where he was arrested on a charge of
attempted automobile theft but later
released when his condition was no-
ticed ! has not been solvedalthough
localagencies the young man's par-
ents and the Tulsa police are at work
First news ofthe unustial case
came to Stillwater Tuesday morning
in a front-page stery in the Tulsa
World College officials and city and
county officers had not heard of it
Earl Albright ass!stant to Presi-
dent Bradford Knapp said Tuesday
morning that his investigation had
disclosed the facts that the student
who had been rooming in Crutchfield
hall left the dormitory Friday No-
vember 19 telling Mrs P K Norris
the house mother that he intended to
go home that he planned to walk as
he had no money Nobody has been
found who saw him in Stillwater af-
ter that day He withdrew from col-
lege before leaving
The story in the World says the
student was in Stillwater Monday
November 22 and that his father be-
lieves he was slugged in Stillwater
and robbed of $180 which had been
sent to him
Albright found Tuesday at noon a
letter addressed to the boy bearing
a Tulsa postmark of November 10 It
had been missent to Carter C Han-
ner hall before being forwarded to
Crutchfield hall Albright said he
would call the young man's parents
or Tulsa officers to tell them about
the letter rather than open it him-
self Peck was termed by Mrs Norria a
"'quiet unassuming well-mannered
sort of boy" His classmates in
freshman work in engineering say
he had a number of peculiarities
The story in the World is:
Science joined hands with the law in Tulsa
last night as physicians endeavored to pierce
the veil that blanks the mind of Paul Peck
21 5112 South St Louie avenue a student at
the A and M college in Stillwater
While relatives and physicians watched
and waited Peck struggles through the men
tal blackness that envelops him and can
mittter only incoherent words to describe
the injury that robbed him of his memory
Sheriff Sanford and county officers be-
lieve the youth was slugged in Stillwater a
week ago and youth of $18() his father E
C Peck employe of the Rock Rickey com-
pany here had sent him tor college expenses
The youth was 'taken in custody in Empo-
ria Ran and charged with attempted theft
of an automobile The charge was dropped
however when authorities discovered he was
suffering from an injury that impaired his
memory and renwoning poWeta
memory anti room:ming powers -
The last vestige 'of stigma occasioned by
Peck's strange disappearance will be re-
moved today when the youth's father Plans
to ask that a sanity hearing be held to prove
Peek was not in possession of his mental
faculties when the alleged crime was com-
mitted The Emporia authorities indicated
no effort will be made to press the charges
Student acquaintances of Peck said he was
last seen on the college campus at Stillwater
Monday morning of last week No further
trace of him was 'found and he attended no
classes duringthe remainder oftheweek1
When found dazed and muttering sense-
Icsily in Emporia the youth was identified
by a card bearihg his father's home address
here
"I can only believethoinry eon fell into
the hands of palnditaInn4 Oat he was struck
on the head' the boro 'hitter said last
'night ''1 do not know whether hcreceived
the WO but I assume that he bad the
money and was robbed"
Sheriff Sanford ordered Peck heldfin a
separate cell last night in the eounty jail
and obviously was doing all in his power to
help the youth's father reclaim the boy from
mental oblivion
The inability of the college students to
describe what had happened to hintComPil-
rated efforts to restore his memory 1
"They hit me here" he said repeatedly
each time placing his band on his sturred
head lending strength to the belief t he had
been slugged and robbed
Peck was brought to Tulsa late yesterday
to be turned over to Sheriff Sanford He
'was pot able to Iwo Inize his father or other
close acquaintances who attempted to con-
verse with him
Shortly after noon Tuesday erry
Rand of the Tulsa World said in a
telephone conversation that Paul
Peck was ordered by the Tplaacoun-
ty judge to be committed to the State
aslylum for the insane at Vinita The
young man's father applied 1or the
order Tuesday morning The young
man was violent Monday night and
hisparents feared he would become
'1uninanagable The commitment to
the asylum was ortthebasis ota tern-
