'Brides Told Proper
Ppts and Pans To
Use In Cookery
Urbana Ill (rTI) — A Univer-
sity of Illinois home economist
Eloise Lorch advises brides to
lodge pots And pans by the follow-
ing standards:
Saucepaes should have straight
sides and flat bottoms that fit
the units or burners They should
have closefitting lids to prev-nt
excessive evaporation of liquids
and permit minimum water cook-
ery When buying aluminum sauce-
pans choose those of medium
thickness which won't warp or
dent as easily as thinner ones
Pans of medium thickness also
heat more uniformly than thin
ones
Test the balance of saucepar
by tapping the handle A well-balanced
pan resists tipping or if it
does tip slightly immediately
rights itself
Choose pots and pans that will
hold enough for two or more re-
membering to allow for expansion
of such foods as beans and rice

TELEPHONES ON THE FARM
Most of us can remember back some years ago when
Telephones on the farm were few and far between They were
usually the wall crank telephones and the lines were quite
often built and maintained by the farmer
Claremore today has about 850 telephone in our rural areas
It is good depentiable service and many of the telephones are
one of the nine beautiful colors
Many of our farm customers are finding that additional
telephones in the barn or other rooms in the house are a big
help in making farm life easier
Perhaps you've never realized we could put a telephone
in the barn — and wouldn't it really be a big help? Lust call
our business office number RO 3-0900 and we will be glad
to discuss it with you You will be surprised at the low cost
PLAYING CUPID
Its such a natural thing — sometimes it's almost automa
tic — for your phone to come to mind when you think of some-
one you love who's out of town Yes I suppose not a day
goes by that somebody in Claremore doesn't use the phone to
remember a loved one
So its easy o see why an Air Force sergeant stationed
in Iceland thought of telephone service when he wanted to
send flowers to his wife back home for her birthday This fl-
low wanted folks at the telephone company to have the flowers
delivered and then charged to his telephone account
Now even though it wasn't possible to bill the flowers to
his telephone account the girls in Miss Clara Blazen's service
order group decided to help anyway They wrote they were
sorry that the telephone company was unable to charge a
florist bill to his phone but they added this personal note:
"However we feel such thoughtfulness deserves special atten-
tion Then they picked out a birthday card and a dozen r0Se3
and had them delivered to the sergeant's wife
CALL AHEAD FOR FUt4
With Memorial Day weekend "just around the corner" it
seems to me just about every family in Claremore is busy
making holiday plans — for a backyard barbecue a neighbor
hood get-together or a trip out of town
If you are planning to wont outof town friends or relatives
it's a good idea to call and let them know when to expect you
And if you plan to visit any of the state parks or commercial
resorts better call ahead for good accommodations
Since most resorts can be reached by telephone at practi-
cally any hour you can save money by calling on Sundays or
any weekday after 6 p m when Long Distance rates are lower
And by calling stationlostation you can save as much
as one-third more
But the sooner you call the sooner you can make the rest
of your plans Why not call this evening?
