Brothers Reconciled
ESAtT : 3PCIVES JACOB AND TEE TWO ENTERAC7
By NEWMAN CAMPBELL
AS JACOB came near Baran
the land where his mother's
brother lived he saw a well
sealed with a huge stone and
men and cattle near at hand The
men told him these were Laban's
cattle and his daughter was com-
ing with the sheep
Then Jacob saw a beautiful
girl coming with a flock of sheep
lie rolled the stone from the well
helped Rachel (that was her
name) water the sheep then Ile
kissed her and burst into tears
Ile had fallen in love with Rachel
Laban welcomed Jacob to his
home when Jacob told him who
he was and asked him to work
for him Laban had another
daughter who was Leah a "tentler-eyed"
woman the cider of
the two daughters
Jacob loved Rachel and offered
to work seven years for her fa-
ther if he might wed her He
worked the seven years and then
was married but it was not to
Rachel Laban had played a trick
on Jacob and married him to
Leah thinking it was not proper
PT the younger girl to marry be-
fore the older one
Jacob did not see his bride's
taco until the following morning
and he was angry and upbraided
Latan Later however he wed
Ractiel too and he eventually had
12 Arms who became the found-
er of the 17 tribes of Israel
‘acob askrl Laban to let him
go home but Laban asked him to
stay For wages Jacob was to
go through the flocks rtmove the
brown and speckled animals and
of that color which the Bock
produced afterwards should be
his wage" I am quoting from Dr
Wilbur M Smith's notes
The agreement seemed all right
to Laban but Jacob did not play
fair He tampered with the flocks
until he had all the strongest and
'best animals for himself and left
Laban the weak and sickly ones
Laban told by his sons what
had happened naturally did not
lotJ't upon Jacob with his former
favor and the Lord told Jacob
to go back to his homeland and
He would be with him
- So Jacob told his wives that
Lsban no longer looked with
favor upon him and that God had

The death toll from a truck colli-

to tie the record for the nation's
worst truck accident in history
Several of the 13 persons injured
hen a truck loaded with migra- i
tory farm workers pulled into the
path of a tractor-tralier near here
Thursday remained in critical con-
dition
Doctors said the death toll could i
"easily" reach 20 surpassing the !
previous worst truck collision in
American history which killed 19

in Highsmith hospital here He was
between 25-30 years of age
Twelve of the dead all Negroes
were pitched along the highway
and into the roadside weeds Two
others were burned to death in
the flaming wreckage of the bean

When Laban caught up with

because Laban might take his

did not know however about the

however Jacob being alone
wrestled with an adversary all
night When the angel failed to
prevail against Jacob he touched
the hollow of Jacobs thigh and

Jacob 'was afraid to go home
because of Esau whom he had

That's a tough break? Aly bad luck?
Hopeless? It's unfair? Those are all things
