Once cop alwaY1 a cop end'
Mexico in the 'eyes' of an Okla-
home highway patrolman is"a
land of quiet streets wonderfully
helpful fellow policemen end
quaint traffisc tontrol measures
F W "Doc" Pendleton
S Willis who with his boss 1A
ClydeAwtrerPawa'sts and 40eir
'wives has just rettiened friim a
two-week vacation in Mexico Is
telling some strange and wonder-
ful tales of the land "down south"
- Being law enforcement offi-
cers and probably Wary of the
tales of bandits rosining the
countryside they stopped a fed-
eral policeman after they cross-
ed the border and questioned hint
concerning outlaws in the area
Tijo policeman assured them
there had been nonein the area
since World War 11 when a few
were caught and placed before
a firing squad The problem
teemed to have been solved
Sine the touring troopers en-
countered nOlandidos" on their
trip '
Tbe Mexican police will do
anything for a fellow officer
Pendleton says Almost 200 miles
out of Mexico City they die-
tired they were almost out of
gasoline Stopping at a filling
station they found that a strike
up north bad left the station
operator without any gas either
Remembering a police check-
point a few miles back the troop-
era turned around and returned
to explain their plight
The policeman when be dis--
covered the men were fellow of-
firers from Oklahoma quickly
solved 'their problem—be drain-
a gallon of gasoline from each
truck waiting to be checked at
the checkpoint and grandly gave
it to the stranded troopers:
Mexico City proper Is a won-
derful city for some five million
persons 12000 of them taxicab
drivers but wonderfully careful
drivers Pendleton said The
troopers noted very few accidents
while there
'Probably one of tbe prime rea-
sons Mexicans are careful driv
