GrandsonJay Scambler made
it back to Oldahoma 'from Ox-
ford (England) just in time for
Colony's Goober Fest
- At the age bf 10 months this
was Jays fourth trans-Atlantic
- flight and he would admit if he
could communicate in a lan-
guage I could understand that
he was having trouble adjusting
to a 6-hour time change
At any rate he seemed to
have a good time whether he
was riding in a stroller pushed
by his great-grandmother Alice
Kauger or whether he was
- riding in his GrandNed's back
pack
He was photographed by any
number of folks attending
GooberFest but I think he most
enjoyed having his picture taken
with "Mr Goober" the mascot
who was portrayed by a long
lanky county commissioner
whom I shall not otherwise iden-
tify For those who did not attend
GooberFest you will probably
read elsewhere in -this paper
about what a success it was
about how fine the weather was
about the turnout the music
the food the crafts in short how
great it was for a first-time event
Plenty of good folks were re-
sponsible for that success When
you mention anyone by name
you risk offending the others not
named but certainly a trio of
women have to be near the top of
everyone's all-star list: Donna

I should also mention that
Colony's newest merchant my
boss Joyce Carney who acts as
if she doesn't already have
enough to do seemed to have a
good crowd passing through her
antique shop during Goober Fest
The most encouraging part of
this for me was to hear from so
many of the planning group who
can't wait for next year to show
that Goober Fest can be even
better

Jay Scambler as precocious
as he might be did not fly back
alone His mother Jonna came
along to carry his supplies and
to "interpret" his needs to the
adult world
Jay's father Bruce will fly to
Oklahoma on Thursday The
three of them are scheduled to
take possession of their new
home in Oklahoma City some-
time this weekend
Pending Bruce's arrival
Jonna and Jay are staying with
Zorro and me in Edmond occu-
pying Jonna's old downstairs
bedroom now referred to as the
"Colony Room" because it is fur-
nished with antiques from
Colony
Jay is an early riser as are
the rest of us In the morning
when he wakes up I put him in
my back pack and carry him
around the house and yard as I
perform my early morning
