A D MUSE Pastor
The training school this week has
gone beyond the most sanguine expec-
tations of every one This is Wednes-
day morning and both Monday and
Tuesday nights were even in attendance-122
each night with the inter-
mediates leading with a total attend-
ance of 39 Tuesday night The last
period Wednesday night is organiza-
tion night—when every union will be
reorganized with sponsors and all
officers and everything set up ready
for action
The Independent Bible class will
meet Thursday night just as same as
last week and all people of the other
churches who were present last week
for the first class are urged to feel
free to come right on Thursday night
this week It will not interfere with
the class And incidentally it will
give you an opportunity to look in
upon our work and see what we are
really doing and it will give some of
our own people an opportunity to
look in on the class and see what we
are doing there
The Tuesday afternoon Bible class
meets every Tuesday afternoon at 2:30
This is the same great class of women
that Mrs Loftin has been teaching of
Thursday afternoons for a number of
years Mrs Muse is now teaching
this class Mrs Loftin hopes to open
up some other classes There should
be a number of independent pre-
Millennial Bible classes opened up all
over the country Next Sunday night
Is training school graduation time The
pastor is going to Oklahoma City
Saturday morning and get all the
diplomas and seals Everything will
be ready for delivery Sunday night
Every seat in the building will be
taken that night—come early so as to
get a seat The sermon subject that
night will be "A certain lawyer and
a woman in the case"
There is a question box in the
window at the north entrance Place
your Bible problem question there and
it will be discussed every Wednesday
night at prayer meeting
We Often Wondered
"Auntie do cats go to heaven?"
"Certainly not dear"
"Well where do they get the strings
for the harps then?"
Pads Valley Moves
To Prevent Fires
Citizens Asked to Join In Observance
' of Fire Prevention Week
-
With a national per capita loss of
$4 for the United States aggregating
approximately half a billion dollars
annually it behooves every resident of
Paula Valley to fall into line on Oct-
ober 4 er:i exert eery effort towards
putting Pau ls Valley in as nearly fire
proof shape for the winter months as
possible
Fire losses represent one of the
greatest wastes not only of this ra-
tion but the entire world Notwith-
standing the ever increasing improve-
ment in fire fighting methods and
means of prevention and precaution
the loss by fire each year has steadily
Increased during the past ten years
and for the most part these fires have
been the result of carelessness
Beginning October 4 the entire week
will be given over throughout Vie
nation as fire prevention week and
through the observance of this week
it is hoped to reduce the fire hazard
to as low a point as possible Let
everyone here do his part toward N-
ducing this hazard and making PaillS
Valley as free from the risk of fire tis
possible
Everyone can enter into tins cam-
paign Look into all of the corners
into closets under the house on
shelving and everywhere and clear
out the rubbish and trash where
sparks might fall and cause a con-
flagration which may not only de- I
stroy your home or store but take
with it a heavy toll in destruction of
other buildings which are close by
Before the cold weather acts in take
a look at the chimneys furnaces
stoves and pipes Clear the chimneys
and flues of soot and look for defects
through which sparks might pass and
find lodgment in the ceilings and
under the roofs These are the great-
est menace when it comes to lre
Ihazards More fire result from defec-
tive chimneys furnaces stoves and
1 pipes than any other single cause
It is alzo a matter of record that
166 percent of the fires of the nation
!occur In the homes of its people
Therefore it would be wise to be
especially careful in checking over
any possible causes of fire in the
homes of Fauls Valley
Fires are far reaching and effect
not only the immediate places burned
but people as well For instance
should a place of business be burned
It means that the people employed
will be thrown out of work los an
:indefinite period of time
i It is a matter of record that in the
case of fifes in buiness establish-
ments about 46 percent of the busi-
nesses never re-engage in business
They pass gat of existence altogether
and along with them go the men and
women employed who must seek work
elsewhere
Just at this time when there is so
large a number of the working class
out of employment due to the depres-
sion it is even more important than
ever to se precaution to prevent fires
so that the army of the unemployed
may not be increased As it is the
question of caring for the people dur-
ing the winter will be a problem and
should not be allowed to become a
greater problem and burden on the
remainder who are fortunate enough
to still hold their Sobs
A little precaution now may mean
the saving of thousands of dollars
later on
Why not enlist in the army which
will march on the fire demon begin-
ning October 4 and do your bit in
lessening fin losses In Fauls Valley?

The World's Meanest Man
CHAS S MOODY M D
-
I am seeking the worlds mcanc:tt
man The search should not be a
long one for he lives in my town
Probably I meet him every day on
the street I don't know Ile may be
a respectable member of society a
staid business man a pillar of the
church or a professional man with
the respect and confidence of a large
number of people But wherever he
is and whoever he is he hides behind
the mask that all men wear with a
foul soul and a heart blacker than
the hinges of Inferno for he is the
man who poisoned an innocent dog
A man may do a lot of despicable
things and hope for forgiveness from
his Creator he might burn an or-
phan asylum and murder its Sister
of Charity he might even drive his
aged mother from his door on a
winter's night and still look his Cod
in the face but there is n-N hope On
earth nor yet in heaven for the mis-
creant who wilfully places strychnine
where an inoffensive animal can get it
It is noon in a busy little western
city A main thoroughfare is thronged
with children newly let loose from
school A little cur dog trots up the
street He is not a handsome dog
nor yet one of unblemished lineage
No sportsman would care to claim
ownership of such a dog but to some
boy he was probably all that is desir
able and loveable With red tongue
lolling from his mouth and a happy
smile on his face the little clog is at
peace and friendship with the whole
world More than one person pauses
and smiles in sympathy with the
little chap Suddenly he stops rile
happy look on his face gives place to
on of consternation and pain A
convulsion EtiZCS him and the dog
writhes In agony for a few seconds
when the spasin passes He trots on
looking enxiously among the children
for his master Another seizure comes
and he falls in a fit end lies kicking
and struggling on the pavement
Somebody shouts "mad dog mad
d'A:' and the children scatter like a
Cock of partridges This attack soon
passes and the stricken animal gets
to his feet and staggers on a few
steps before the next one comes This
more terrible than the former one
convulses him urtil he throws him-
self over backward uttering a (sy
like a hurt child his lips draw 4-J-ay
front his teeth in a horrible sardonic
grin Our marshiI a humane
hurries up and takes in the situation
at a glance Tie rushes into a nearby
store and procures an ax The little
dog has by now recovered somewhat
and attempts to get to his feet The
man with the ax deals him one pow-
erful blow which mercifully puts an
end to his sufferings I watched the
entire scene from my office window
and as I witnessed rirrowfully the
last final shudder the twitching of
