North Walnut entertained Friday
evening in compliment to their
daughter Mary Ann who was
hostess to about forty of her
friends at a gay Hallowe'en mas-
querade party
In the rooms where the boys
and girls played games appro-
priate to Hallowe'en the walls
were decked with an assortment
of black cats witches and goblins

evening which lent a spooky feel-

studying art at the art colony in
Taos New Mexico for the past
three months has returned to

Mrs Reed has painted some
lovely Indian pictures and fall
scenery- She succeeded in get-
ting a picture of the yellow aspen
trees which are so beautiful in
the fall of the year

Double Wedding Ceremony
Of University Students
A dcuble wedding ceremony
was performed at the home of
Mr and Mrs Oscar McCall on
Saturday evening at 8:30 when
Miss Virginia Crabbe of Guthrie
and Mr Lewis C Lindsey of
Norman and Miss Frances Ellen-
ger of Noble and Mr Ray Hughes
of Norman were united in mar-
riage Rev P D Tucker pastor
of the Presbyterian church offi-
ciated The young couples are students
at Oklahoma university and re-
turned Sunday to Norman to
continue their work
Both Mrs Lindsey and Mrs
Hughes are members of the Chi
Mega sorority
Mr Lindsey is a member of
the Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity
and Mr Hughes is a member of
Phi Kappa Alpha

Hostess to Music Club
The Pau Is Valley Music club
met Tuesday afternoon October
22 in the home of Mrs A S
Spangler 512 North Walnut when
12 members were present
During the business session
Mrs W J Rouse was welcomed
as a new member
The lesson "The Orchestra—
it's divisions" was led by Mrs
C J Moody and was very in-
teresting The program was as

The Woman's Council of the
First Christian church held a
very interesting and instructive
meeting at the home of Mrs
Brot h e r s Thursday afternoon
when 18 women were present
The devotional was led by Mrs
J L Green The study on "The
New Testament Church" under
the leadership of Mrs Harry
Hamilton and Mrs J L Green
was thoroughly enjoyed
The contest proved Mrs Green
and her division to be three
points ahead
Next meeting will be held with
Mrs A C Crossfield east of the
city All ladies of the church

Mr and Mrs Clarence Case
and Mrs Haskins and son were
the only ones present
Mrs Lyon is the daughter of
Mr and Mrs W H O'Gwin of
this city She was graduated
from the Paula Valley high
school in 1920 and since that time
she has been employed as book-
keeper and treasurer for the
Tyler-Simpson wholesale grocery
company of this city She served
as president of the Y W A for
two years and is president of the
B Y P U of the Banner asso-
ciation Mrs Lyon is also the
sponsor for the Senior B Y P
U and a teacher in the Junior
department of the Baptist Sunday
school
Mr Lyon is the son of Mrs C
A Peters of Dallas He received
his diploma from the high school
at Sweetwater Texas and after-
wards took a business course He
is district wholesale agent for
the Magnolia Oil company with
headquarters in Pauls Valley
Following the ceremony Mr
and Mrs Case were hosts at a
wedding supper in Ardmore
Mr and Mrs Lyon will be at
home to their friends on North

M E Ladies Make Quilts
For Orphans' Home
The Methodist ladies held an
all-day meeting at the church last
Thursday for the purpose of
making quilts and tacking com-
forts for the Methodist orphanage
at Britton During the business
meeting a motion was carried to
entertain the next district meet-
ing A cafeteria dinner was served
at noon to about twenty-five
ladies

Teacher Celebrates Birthday 1
Prof C S Bruun of Purcell
who formerly Hired in Paula Val-
ley and taught music here for 25
years celebrated his 85th birth-
day anniversary at the home of
his son in Purcell October 17
Professor Bruun was born in
Norway and at the age of 16
years went to live in the king's
palace and play the violin in the
royal orchestra He also played
in the National theatre under
the celebrated violinist Ole
But le
Professor Bruun came to
America at the age of 20 the year
the Civil war closed and taught
music in Chicago and played and
organized orchestras all over the
state of Illinois Later he moved
to Arkansas and then to Indian
Territory He came to -Pau 131
Valley in 1904
A number of old-time friends
visited Professor Bruun on his
birthday Among those were:
Dr A J Young of Maysville who
took his first violin lesson from
the professor in October 1860
in Arkansas Mrs F O Ringer

Besides a number of useful
sifts which were presented to
him each lady prepared and gave
him a favorite dish
Professor Bruun is unusually
active for his age and still en-
joys his music

Secretary Here Monday
Of interest to the Presbyterian
women of this city was the
meeting at the church Monday
afternoon and night when Mrs
Van Croft of San Francisco who
is secretary of the 'Board of
National Missions gave two very
interesting talks on the work
Mrs Barclay of Norman presi-
dent of the Oklahoma Presby-
terial was also a speaker for
the evening
Both Mrs Van Croft and Mrs
Barclay were guests of Mrs Ed
Low while in the city
Troop 76 Entertains With
Hallowe'en Party
Boy Scout Troop 76 enter-
tained with a party Monday night
in the Presbyterian church base-
ment About 40 girls and boys
were present to participate in the
festivities
Wayne Coffman very ably led
the games and contests which
proved to be real features
Favors of horns to the girls
and clappers to the boys were
given and much noise and merry
making followed Stunts by the
various couples were then held
Malissi Strickland and Vera
Ashurst winning the prize a
yo-yo
Rev P D Tucker related some
thrillers of frontier days which
was followed by refershments
consisting of pumpkin pie cocoa
bananas and ice cream
The scouts wish to thank Mr
Frier for the ice cream which he
furnished free and the Rotary
club for the bananas Also the
assistance of Mrs Poole Mrs
Snedden Mrs Jackson Mrs
Justice and Mrs Collins was
highly appreciated
