A State of Emergency, was declared
by Gov Mary Fallin after the storms that
moved through the state on Friday. The
State of Emergency remains in effect for
12 counties hit hard by the tornadoes and
other severe weather, including Jackson.
The declaration is the first step toward
seeking possible federal assistance. The
counties included in the state of emer-
gency are: Alfalfa, Caddo, Canadian,
Cleveland, Ellis, Harper, Jackson,
Kiowa, Logan, Oklahoma, Woods and
Woodward. More counties could be
added as needed.

The Jackson County Commissioners had their regular
meeting on Monday, April 16, at 10 a.m.
They approved the minutes from their last meeting on
Monday, April 9 with one minor correction. There were no
reports. In Officers' reports. Sheriff Roger LeVick reminded
the officers that there had been many thefts of large
equipment in Jackson County. He said some of the stolen
equipment included a generator, a Kaboda tractor and an
excavator. Working with Stephens County, the Sheriffs
Department recovered all of the missing items valued at
about $90,000. The Drug Task Force developed search
warrants for a multi-county area. Working together, law
enforcement officers found the excavator and other items
at a “chop shop" The owner of the illegal business had cut
a tractor from Greer County and one from Tillman County
to combine them. In the process, a tank fell on the man and
