AMERICANISNI WEEK COMING
Arnericarm week under Fporf)thip of
the United junior chamber cf commerce is corning
up teat month Fel'r-uar7 12 to 22 and locally the Jay-cets
with Berl-Jeri Leeyrd as chairman are planning already
for preeettatien of the most far-reaching Americanism
program ever promoted in this county
The Jay-tees should get all the Eupport and all the
help they reed for such a preg-ram this year Gr? of
the evetts planeed for the week is a gigantic Citizenship
bay program which necessarily require the help ot
other organizations arid individuals outside the junior
chamtser 'Ayelf We hope this program can become corn
conducting its Arnericarrn prog-ram the Jay-
cees thould not overlook the ru-rzsl areas We would like
to see an Arriericani"m program 'resented timultaneoualy
in every rural school in this county on some right during
unat14-Jnal -Americanism week
We would like to see thousands of copies of the Bill
Rights printed aed diytributed Ft1 that Americans
might refresh their memories of some of the privileges
and rights they enjoy because they are Americans —
Tights and privileges that have bee?n taken away from the
people of virtually every other ration of the world
There are no limits to activities that could be carried
on during the week Many little things relativ? to Amer-
icanism can be put together to make a big and impressive
program
Arnerizarisia 4 something that should go on the year
around But a program such as the Jay-cees hope to be
able to present should revive and strengthen forces of this
great democracy
ABUSE OF FREEDOM
Membeii of the German-American bund (and we
don't like this hyphenatt d name one bit) are to be pun-
ished for advocating un-American practices The supreme
court of New Jersey has just upheld a statute providing
for action against certain individuals We are not fa-
miliar with the statute realize that it will curb some
who have been imposing on this country and taking ad-
vantage of our free institutions to advocate destruction
of our government and our institutions but believe that
the time has come for reasonable curbs Give these per-
iSOIN fair trials deport those who do rot belong here put
others behind prison bars No othf'r country in the world
would have permitted what we have enduied It is not
a curb of freedom of speech and of the press when we
deny to destructive elements the right to operate with-
out hindrance—l'onca City News
