THE CAPITOL
(By J R HALL Jr)
STATE SENATOR
The Senate during the past week
again spent considerable time
holding committee meetings This
process of holding committee meet
ings on each bill prior to its pass-
age or rejection by the Senate as
a whole give the committee mem-
bers an opportunity to check the
bill for typographical errors etc
It also serves to acquaint members
with the contents of the bill thus
tending to assure fuller know ledge
and undertanding of the bill prior
to its consideration by the Senate
This process also affords opport-
unity to those who would care to
appear before the committee and
register their approval or their
disapproval of the proposed legis-
lation Well over 200 bills have been in
troduced in the Senate and 300 in
the house of Representatives to
date It can be seen that the
committees of both houses have
their work "cut out" for them for
the remainder of this session
