CONGRESSMAN

LDCAT
About all that we have had on
the "hill" this week both in the
House and in the Senate so far
as the sessions are concerned were
special orders—which means
"speech making"
The Senate has not completed its
version of the tax bill It will
probably be a week or ten days
before it is returned to the House
for further consideraiion
Bills introduced in the House
and the Senate by administration
leaders in connection with the
president's message on inflation
were assigned to the appropriate
legislative committees for hearing
In the Senate the committee con-
sidering the bill is the Senate fin-
ance committee in the House the
committee on banking and curren-
cy which is headed by Chairman
Stegall of Alabama I I earings
have been conducted this week on
different phases of the bill and
could be reported to the rules com-
mittee for a rule—which means
that it will probably not reach the
committee Of the whole House for
consideration before the latter part
of next week
The commissioners pres:dents
and secret a ries of the various
boards of agriculture throughout
the country representing most of
the states have been in session
here this week considering the
proposed legislation and last night
I attended a meeting presided over
by our own president of the board
of agriculture Joe Scott at which
meeting a considerable number of
representatives and senators were
present attempting to determine
just what the proposed legislation
may do toward affecting the prices
of agricultural commo&ties
The Stegall bill in short pro-
vides: (1) A flor under farm prices
at parity from and after its pass-
age and until three years after
the war
(2) A ceiling on farm prices
at parity or the highest price sr)
