OURS
This is 1944 the Year Of Victory
We here on the home front must
plan to do our share and more jar
a sure victory We will have much
to do There will be lots of Red
Cross work War Relief Funds and
home front work There will be
great need for more gardens and
crops and livestock There will be
need to conserve and save But the
larger task at hand now is the 4th
War Loan This begins January 18
and our nation must raise 14 billion
dollars You should support it even
by donation but the Government
does not ask that They only want
to borrow a small investment from
every investor and will pay you in
10 years one-third more than you
put up That's a pretty fair deal
for any kind of business
But the only trouble is people to-
day are not fully co-operating We
have same few who are continually
arousing feeling by making state-
ments to the effect that Bonds will
be worthless after the war ' They
whine about Bonds of World War 1
You'll get your money back every
cent and more on these Bonds but
if you didn't you are still not snatch-
ing sacrifice with those who die on
fields of battle -
We have to sympathy with lab(lr
leaders They are aiding the enemy
by promoting labor rebellion We
have no fight with the workers for
most are real Americans but are
blindly following un-American labor
lords who must filially lead them
into the greatest prejudice against
labor ever known Slow down or
stoppages in war plants are benefits
to the enemy regardless of labor's
rights or wrongs
All this with critical times now
at hand is un-American We must
work and work buy Bonds and snore
Bonds donate and help the war
ffort to our fullest ability Even
then you won't equal that gold star
in your neighbor's home

SOUTHEAST OF TOWN
We were deeply grievd to learn
of the death of Rev Strouse and
extend our very sincere sympathy to
Our dear friend Mrs Strouse and her
family
We haven't much local news and
I know we are all interested in the
exploits of our soldiers so we jot
down the following items Mr Steve
Shumate is justly proud of his son
Norris who is stationed in Egypt
and was assigned the construction
of an airfield with the opinion of
his superior officers that the job
would take about 10 months but
Norris got large machinery -got
things going and with bard work
and good management had the field
ready in three months so we don't
wonder that it makes the Germans
jittery and the Allies glad to see
the Yanks coming
The people of Sallisaw certainly
go all out to give their Army boys
a good time When Cecil Acuff and
another boy from Sallisaw were at
home for Xmas furlough one good
citizen of Sallisaw insisted on them
using his town car to take their
girls to Ft Smith and other places
of amusement and a garage 'ban
gave them gasoline free of charge
and a resturant owner gave them
and their girls a wonderful dinner
so the boys went back to their duties
fecling that the old home town was
really backing them in every way
Mrs Paul Bounds writes that she
had a glorious trip home to Cali-
fornia and there was plenty of room
and the soldiers on the train had a
great time with Allies' little boy
he made up with them at once and
they called him Butch and Happy
and all sorts of pet names and the
mothers and grandmothers literally
took charge of Al lie and her little
boy So we hope they will visit us
Oakis again some time
Mr and Mrs Wm Krater called
at the home of her sister Mr and
Mrs James 'miter and found Mrs
Luster not so well as she Itas been
suffering with a heml
