OKLAHOMA CITY (UPI—State Republican Chairman Henry

1958 campaign promises and
veto the anti-merit system bill
now on his desk
"Gov Edintindson's dilemma as
to whether he vetoes or signs the

I- needs to do is to re-read some of
the speeches be made during the

him or the old guard Democrat
machine which fought him"
Banton referred to a pledge
Edmondson made in the 1958 Dein-
oeratic primary race for governor
in an issue of the "Prairie 'Fire

son as a "Young David" fighting
Goliath
The campaign newspaper quotes
Edmondson as saying "Hard

game and want to make a career
of public service will find their

"The amendments included in
the current bill " Bellmon said
"will cut the heart out of Oklaho-

the dark ages when the old guard
machine filled up state pay rolls
with kin folks and Democratic
party political hacks
