WASI1LNGTON all)D-- Oklaho-
ma is at least a decade ahead of
most of the nation in development
et natural resource Sen Robert
S Kerr D-Okla said today
Kerr chairman of the Select

-Water Hesoirees- made his state-
ment in filing his group's final re-
port to the Senate
The committee recommended
using federal - state cooperation
which Kerr sponsored in the Arkansas-White

sins as the beeic pattern to de-
velop all other major river basins
in the nation
Kerr said without the Arkansu-
White Itiver basin plan he epon-
a wed In 1949 20 million acres of
Oklahoma would have been in dire
need for water by 2000 A D
The committee set 1970 as tar-
get date for eompletion of plans
they recommended for other ma-
jor rive basins
Kerr said progress in Oklahoma
in resources comiervation would
be a model and pattern of per-
formance for others
"Oklahoma has had some pollu-
tion problems but had moved
vigorously to meet and solve
them" Kerr said "The sentiment
Is growing In Oklahoma to en-
courage only that Industrial
growth which does not impair the
quality of our waters"
The senior Oklahoma senator
said the Public Health— Service
and Corps of Army Engineers
were developing a way to elimi-
nate natural Salt pollution from
the Arkansan Cimarron Canadian
and Red rivers Kerr said the
new budget contain 025000 for
continuation of that Mode?
