Juvenile delinquency got a pat on
the back for a change recently
It came from a manufacturer of
plastic products who said TV is in-
creasing the sale of living room
furniture covered with vinyl plas-
tic upholstery material
But TV commercials don't get
the credit
C O De Long president of B
F Goodrich Industrial Products
Co Akron Ohio which makes a
vinyl upholstery material called
'Voroseal" explained it this way:
"Television attracts the mod
ern family especially the chit
dren to the living room at regu
tar hours every day The young
sters descend on the furniture in
their play clothes and in behav-
ing like active healthy children
give the furniture quite a beat-
ing "They mar the furniture with
their shoes and buckles as they
glue their eyes on the screen They
transfer some of the grime they
pick up while playing outside to
Moms new sofa And in the ex-
citement of a gun battle between
th sheriff and the 'bad man' they
ofien spill milk or a soft drink
on Dads favorite easy chair
"As a defensive measure" !De-
Long said ''more and more par-
ents are turning to living room
furniture covered with vinyl up-
holstery material because it is eas-
ily washed and has the ability to
resist scuffs and marks"
ICE CREAM TIE-IN
ALLEN PARK Mich (UP)—
Mayor Osborne Dunn father of a
10-year-old daughter said the rea-
son an ice cream vendor was
denied permission by the city
council to amplify nursery rhymes
from a sound truck as a means of
increasing sales was that it might
build up an undesirable reflex ac-
tion—a youngster's mouth would
automatically water each time he
heard a nursery rhyme 1
