Plant Is Sought
OKLAHOMA CITY (UP) —Gov
IZaymond Gary told an Okmulgee
county delegation today he is en-
dorsing a program of state finan-
cial participation in establishing
an experimental coal processing
plant at Henryetta to help employ
300 coal miners
Gary said the plan is to have
the State Department ' of Com-
merce and Industry spend up to
$50000 on the project in the next
two years
The appropriations conference
committee Tuesday wrote such a
provision into the commerce and
industry department bill
The experimental pilot plant will
process coal so that it can be
used by zinc smelting plants Gary
said Okmulgee county coal can-
not be used for this purpose in its
present form and would have to
be processed The zinc plants get
their coal from other states
The governor said that if the
use of funds of the department of
commerce and industry makes the
department run short he will be
willing to allocate supplementary
funds from his own contingency
and emergency fund
Among those in the delegation
today were members of the Ok-
mulgee county legislative delega-
tion Jay Summers Henryetta a
member of the Economic Devel-
opment Commission and Gene
