Anyone who saw us yesterday
evening or early this morning
would have concluded the golf
bug had bitten us real hard We
were helping mow the golf course
The continuous rain of the past
month has turned the golf course
into a jungle of weeds and high
grass It has been impossible for
grounds keeper Sam 1A'hitegill to
get on the course with his mowers
because of the soft wet ground
Yesterday Raymond Warwick
took a tractor drawn rotary mow-
er and began chopping the top
off the high grass The country
club's reel-type mower followed it
to cut the grass down to normal
height Rudd Sisk A E Richard-
son and this denartment served as
relief drivers for the two tractors
Working in two shifts the mow-
ers changed the looks of most of
the golf course yesterday aid the
job will be finished today except
for a few rough spots which will
have to be done with s mailer
walking-type mowers
You've got to want to play golf
to do something like that we con-
clude At that it beats coon hunt-
ing -
Just why the practice of crumb-
ling up crackers in soup is frown-
ed upon is more than we e a n
understand Yet it is one of the
largest bones of contention around
the dining table in the Johnson
household
The Little Woman thinks it is
okay to put ice in sou P either
cube or crushed but when we
crumble some crackers the roof
blows off We don't like to have
to crumble our dirty crackers in
public but we feel we have some
arguments that should be consider-
ed In the first place it tastes bet-
ter if the crackers are a II mixed
and crumbled in the soup and it
is a pretty good way to cool it
We're aware of the fact that
pouring coffee into a saucer is
not the universally accepted
practice but many is the time
we've seen people grab the handle
of a hot cup of coffee gently test
it for heat half cook their lips
glance furtively around to see who
might be watching and then if
the coast is clear slyly pour the
steaming liouid into a saucer
back into the cup repeat the
act a couple of times and then
drink it So what's wrong with
crackers?

by a group of key legislators
Gov Raymond Gary has been
