How To Care
For Wash and Wear
As more garments labeled
"wash and wear" appear on the
clothing market many homemak-
ers are asking about washing in-
ctructions and proper care Follow
these ten points in laundering
"wash and wear" fabrics
1 Wash frequently since heavily
soiled or stained fibers and fin
ishes don't come clean easily
2 Wash like fabrics together and
whites in a separate load to avoid
picking up color and lint from
other items
3 Wash in small loads or one
item at a time by hand to avoid
wringling caused by overcrowding
4 Cold water washing causes
less wrinkling but hot or warm
water may be used for heavy soil
5 Don't wash in the machine
more than five minutes and use
a slower agitation speed if possi-
ble 6 Rinse in lukewarn or cold
water adding a water conditioner
to the first
1 Never wring wash and wear
fabrics Garments to be drye r-
dried may be spun or squeezed to
remove excess water Hang to drip
dry
B Drip-dry carefully hanging o
a nonrusing hanger and shaping
to smooth seams collar cuffs
bpndq etc
9 Don't overdry in an automst
le dryer but use a medium set-
ting and remove the garments
mmediately to avoid more wrink-
ling 10 Use a steam or regular iron
an a low setting to touch up gar
menls when necessary
"Read garment labels and appli-
ance instruction books for more de-
tailed washing instructions wash
and wear labels carry tags giving
instructions in key terms
These terms are defined as:
Needs little or no ironing—the
garment may sometimes be worn
without ironing but usually must
be touched up with a warm iron
Needs no ironing — the garment
requires no ironing at all through-
out its wearable life
Needs only touch-up ironing —
the garment usually needs touch-
ing up at seams lapels collar and
cuffs
Bake broiler-fryers in a hot oven
Birds for the family platter clue-
ing June are young tender broile-
fryer chickens a heavy supply is
in most markets where the birds
are sold cut-up in serving pieces

Adults who will accompany them
are: Mrs Wayne Sanguin Mrs E
H Harvey and Mrs Allan °West
and packaged ready-to-cook
The traditional and most com-
mon method of cooking is frying
but most families appreciate va-
riety when chicken is served often
Why not try a simple hot - oven
bake It takes less fat than fry-
ing and saves time and labor
for the cook too
Here is the method developed by
the USDA institute of home econ-
omics: Rub or lightly brush chic-
ken pieces with soft fat Season
with salt and pepper as desired
and place skin side down on a rack
in a shallow pan Place in a hot
WO degrees F) oven
After 30 minutes turn pieces and
baste with drippings in the pan
The chicken should be done in an
hour or less depending on thick-
ness of the pieces Over-cooking
will dry out the young lean chick-
ens The broiler fryer will come out
of the oven delicately browned
plump and juicy only a little fat
Is needed and you don't dip the
pieces in batter or flour as you
do for fried chicken Biggest boon
is the minimum altention needed
by the cook
