New Film Devised
For Missile Tracking
MADISON Wis — — New
hope in combating Dutch elm dis-
ease is reported by two University
of Wisconsin researchers through
the use of chemical systemics
Abdullah Azawi and J E Casida
said they have successfully usd
a systemic Insecticide against the
European elm bark beetle carrier
of the elm disease
By using systemies they said
that every leaf and twig is made a
carrier of the' insect-killing sub-
stance since it is carried in t h e
tree's sap
But the men said further tests
are needed to find out if the new
insecticide kills the beetles fast
enough to prevent them from in-
fecting the tree The reduction in
beetle population should eventually
ease the disease problem they said
Tough Question
WASHINGTON — all— Dan C
Kimball a missile manufacturer
was confronted with a long and
involved question by Sen Leverett
Saltonstall (R Mass) Wednesday
while testifying before the Senate
preparedness subcommittee "I
don't believe I understand the
question Senator" Kimball said'
"I don't blame you" Saltonstall
replied

How To Recognize
A Blizzard
CHICAGO — (111 — A blizzard is
just a cold windy snowstorm to
many of tis but the Weather Bu-
reau has a very exact definition for
it and a nightmarish one too
Depending on where we live a
blizzard may be what makes the
bus or train run late what prompts
the wife to point to the show shov-
el or what improves the winter
tourist business
But to vveatnermen just any old
heavy snowfall isn't a blizzard—
no matter how much of a nuisance
it may be In fact it doesn't even
have to snow
If you are deafened by gale
winds choked and blinded by snow
and numb with cold then weath-
ermen admit you may be in a bliz-
zard It takes one part gale one
part blowing snow and one part
frigid temperatures to make a real
blizzard The snow can be Ticked
up from the ground
Here is how the weather experts
put it:
"The whole atmosphere becomes
filled with needlelike snow and ice
crystals which driven by a cold
wind of gale force sting the flesh
and sift thrn-"b the finest crevices
Caught in such a blast one runs
the risk of suffocation while ice dust
which penetrates the thickest cloth-
ing is more choking than a summer
