ARE CHAUPIONS IN COUNTY
Marlow Junior High girls' basketball team recorded a
first last week in school history by winning the county junior
high basketball tournament in the girls division The local
girls coached by J T Mayfield traveled through a week of
heated eliminations before gaining the county champion title
Betty Ball captain of the team accepted the first place trophy
for the team
The local team downed Comanche girls 17-13 as their
final and winning game on Saturday evening Linda Hicks
a driver superb scored all but three of Marlow's points Mary
Adams with two points led second and Miss Ball made one
basket Patsy Bowles of Comanche paced them with seven
points

He was born on March 19

Brown on June 14 1908 He was
a retired farmer and had lived
here since 1907 He also formerly
had been an employee of the
local school He was a member
of the First Baptist church

mer and member of the Fifth
Street Baptist church He had
lived in the Bray and Marlow
area over 36 years

Marlow Junior High boys were
edged out by Comanche in the
finals of the county tournament
In a hard fought game Coman-
che edged Marlow out in the last
few seconds of play 23 to 21
Roger Potts was high point man
for Marlow with 10 points Rob-
ert Beck led the Comanche team
with 14 points
The Marlow record now stands
nine won three lost One of the
losses came in the finals of the
invitational tournament at Wau-
rika by Lone Grove
Their next game will be on
January 30 with Temple

At State National
All officers were re-elected at
the annual meeting of stockhold-
ers of the State National Bank on
Tuesday of last week

the bank with Ira Green vice
president Tom Mahaffey cash-

' The March of Dimes drive for
polio funds continues in Marlow
with 643561 collected to date and
special events for the drive are
scheduled for the remainder of
the month
Among the events is "broadcast
donations" On Saturday from
8:00 p m to 1:00 a m and on
Sunday from 8:00 a m to 11:00
p m residents may phone dona-
tions to phone number 784 in
Marlow the name of the persons
donating and the amount donat-
ed will be broadcast by short
wave from Marlow to Duncan and
Duncan will relay the informa-
tion to Lawton where it will be
broadcast on television Handl-

ance is being taken in Marlow
The Alliance has employed the
Business and Professional Wom-
en's Club to make the survey
Members of the B-PW Club

is solicited in making this census
project a success

sionary to Africa and is in ' the
States on a one year furlough Ile

A Marlow resident Mrs Jack
Sparks 601 West Osage suffered
injuries when shefell while rid-
ing the escalator in Anthony's
store at Duncan last week
The accident reportedly occurr-
ed as Mrs Sparks and another
local resident Mrs Cora Clifft
were riding the escalator when
Mrs Clifft either lost her balance
or became dizzy and fell against
Mrs Sparks causing her to fall
Mrs Sparks suffered shattered
bones in the left artn just above
he wrist and a severe hip bruise
along with other bruises Mrs
ChM also suffered bruises Mrs
Sparks is a patient in Southwest-
arn hospital in Lawton It was
thought that she possibly would
be able to return to her home in
Marlow this weekend

A large truck hauling oil field
equipment reportedly was a con-
tributing factor in an accident on
Wednesday at 12:45 p m on
South Broadway in the 400 block
A car driven by Dale Jackson
Jake Oklahoma City and owned
by Dale Williams- Conntruction
was traveling south on Broadway
and a car driven by Mary Lee
Cearlock 403 South Fifth street
turning onto South Broadway
from a business location were
the vehicles involved according
to the investigating 'olifcer's re-
port '
The large truck reportedly ob-
structed the view so that drivers
of either car could not see the
other vehicle Both cars receiv
