I Members of the Hugo Rotary club
'agreed Tuesday with members of
the Hugo Lions club that Roy
(Henn of Paris who spoke to the
ROariallS Tuesday and to Lions
Istveral weeks ago on the program
!of Alcoholics Anonymous presented
One of the most interesting Pro-
grams either club has had in many
years
I Glenn's Hugo hearers while a
Ife disagree on mmor points of the
AA approach are united in prais-
ing accomplishments of the organi-
zation made up mostly of alcoholics
who like Glenn have overcome
the disease of alcoholism
"Alcoholism" Glenn said in be-
ginning his talk Tuesday "is a
disease We do not regard it in the
nature of a moral issue"
1 It is he revealed the number
three killer of the nation Apprhx
imately five millions Of Americans
are victims of it
1 Glenn believes that Alcoholics
Anonymous is the first organization
since the time of Christ that has
made appreciable progress against
the disease
"We in AA" he said "believe that
education rather than legislation
is the better approach to the prob-
lem" For example he pointed out le-
gally dry Oklahoma has as much
of a problem with alcoholism as
states in which the sale of alcoholic
beverages is legal
Experience of AA's indicates that
the excessive drinking in some cases
resulting in alcoholism generally
is the result of emotional instability
frustration - - or "a void" The
drinker unconsciously comes to de-
pend on liquor to "fill the void"
Continued the habit results in
death or insanity in many cases
After the physical effects of ex-
cessive drinking have been remedied1
AA's attempt to find something to I
eliminate the frustration or fill the
void In many cases religion has
been found the most efficacious for
the defect actually has been a "spi-
ritual void" Glenn said
The alcoholic deserves sympathy
and help - - - not condemnation
he declared with emphasis
Glenn was introduced by a Hugo
Rota! tan R J Burris who is tak-
ing the lead in organizing an Alco-
holics Anonymous chapter in Hugo
He praised the speaker who is of
small stature as being "to me the
biggest man in Texas'
Glenn answered the questions of
his hearers Tuesday in regard to
his experience and that of fellow
AA members in trying to help alcoholics

REASONABLE TIME in four months from the date
Before a contract arises someone hereof or the same will be forever
make ake an offer and another barred
must accept it Dated this 12th day of September
NVithout an offer no aceptance A D 1958
with no acceptance no agreement 8 HENRY BUTTS
But there is often a time within I Administrator
which you can accept the offer And
it not the offer ends anyhow with-
in a "reasonable time" which is
determined by circumstances and
the parties intentions
Smith had a set of bolks which
Brown wanted Brown wrote and
offered him $200 for the set
Smith didn't answer for six
mont hs and meantime Brown
bought a similar set One day Brown
got H irom Smith saying "I
accept your offer of $200 for the
set n f book')"
Brown told Smith he'd bought the
books elsewhere but Smith still
claimed that- his belated "accept-
ance" had nevertheless sealed the
contract with Brown
Nas there a contract? No the
otter had lapsed because it had not
been accepted Whin a reasonable
time
There tre many ways to end an
offer You may withdraw it you
may Na y that the offer expires at
a given time or you may die or
the other party may turn it down
directly or by making a counter of-
fer Here Smith had failed to accept
Brown's offer within a reasonable
time which ended it just as though
II had been withdrawn
What is a reasonable time? It
varies The offer could expire in a
few minutes in the stock market or
last for quite a while depending
upon what a court would think is a
reasonable time
But in Smith's case six months
was unreasonable

Case of Desertion
By Lowell Saunders
Moody Bible Institute Chicago
Bible Halts Highway Robbery
By Lowell Saunders
Aloody Bible Institute Chicago
Missouri the land of Jesse James
still has its highwaymen - com-
pete with masks and six shnoters
Just after midnight on August
24 my wife and I were driving west
on highway 40 some 80 miles from
Kansas City A car which had been
following closely for about 15 miles
finally made a bid to pass As it
drew alongside however the dri-
ver began to crowd us off the road
His companion leveld his gun at
the front of our car and fired five
times to enforce his command to
stop
We did
"Don't give us any trouble! Hand
over your wallet" snapped a young
man in his early 23's as the car
ground to a halt
"Here you are" 1 said handing
it over -
"Take this Bible too" my wife
called out as she thrust it toward
him "And here's a New Testament
for your buddy to read!"
The young bandits - - - shocked
and speechless - - meekly accepted
the Scriptures
"God will punish you for this but
we'll pray for you that you might
be saved"
Returning my now-emptied wal-
let the highwaymen ordered us to
drive on Then doubling back on
the road they disappeared in the
darkness failing to ask for watches
rings purse typewriter and other
valuables we carried
Why does the presence of a Bible
halt the actions of a robber hush
the lips of a profaner and sober a
drunk? Why do men fear the Bible
and respect it?
Because they recognize the Bible
is from God and realize they will
be judged by its sacred pages Jesus
said "The words that I have spoken
the same shall Judge him at the
last day" (John 12:48)
Perhaps these two young high-
waymen will repent of their sins
and turn to God They have in their
hands "the holy scriptures which
are able to make thee wise unto
s3Ivation through faith which is In
Christ Jesus" (II Timothy 3:15)
