Holds Hostages
Kills Carpenter
(Continued from Page One)
Mrs Dickinson to the Darter
home They spent all night in the
Darter home drinking coffee'
Windsor held an automatic pistol
on them part of the time
Alfred W:tb who is in a car
pool with Darter arrived about 8
am to pick Darter up: they both
drive concrete trucks for a living
So Windsor took Webb hostage
and went back to the Dickinson
home with Webb Mrs Dickinson
and the Darters
Webb asked whether he could
get his car keys Windsor told
him shortly: "No"
The Darter children then were
alone in their own home
Hassell arrived at Mrs Dickin-
son's home to get the keys to a
house he was working on Mrs
Dickinson told him they were hos-
tages and to "come on in"
Windsor shooting over Mrs
Dickinson's shoulder hit Hassell
in the mouth when he turned to
run A man with Hassell saw it
and called police
"I won't be taken alive" Wind-
sor told the hostages "But I
won't kill you if you do what
say"
Body Lies On Porch
Hassell fell into a clump of
shrubs and Darter said: "He
made me carry him up on the
porch and mop up the blood"
The body of Hassell lay on the
porch as police fired tear gas into
the house and punctured the doors
with bullets
The hostages escaped while the
house was filled with tear gas
Windsor opened the windows and
turned on electric fans to blow the
gas out
Police Capt Will Fritz walked
up to the front door firing a sub-
machine gun Other police went
with him shooting nistols
Glad Ile's Dead
When they got into the house
they found Windsor dead with
wounds in his head and chest
When Mrs Darter reached a
hospital she asked whether Wind-
sor was dead
"Oh good I'm sure glad" she
said when she learned he was
"God I had given myself up for
dead all night Oh he was awful
The Darters had on the hand-
cuffs Windsor locked them in
when they reached the hospital
