this county which appeared In the
last week’s issue of the Dem-

of again entering the field of poll- Sulphuri okla R A
tics but have received considerable
encouragment from responsible peo-
ple and after having made :: close
canvas of the situation I have decid-
ed to enter the race for sheriff
I do not claim that I am in the
race in response to overwhelming
demand from oil the voters of the
county and that I am forced to run
I am running hecause I want the of-
fice and because I believe that 1 can
be elected and I am not being run
by any certain element or clique and
It elected will be the sheriff for the
people all the time and shall endeav-
or oa best I can to enforce all the
laws
Having served as sheriff of this
county for three terms I believe that
I am thoroughly acquainted with the
duties of the office and believe that
I am capable of discharging them to
your satisfaction and I do not claim
that my administration were free of
all mistakes and I am going before
the people nnd stnndlng on that re-
cord of elx years service
If elected I shall devote my ener-
gies toward assisting the Federal of-
ficers and the Council of Defense In
clearing our county of disloyal citi-
zens and of stomping out seditious
utterances
For the reason that there are so
many more Important and vital Is-
sues before tho people at this time I
shall not make an extensive cam-
paign for It seems to me that at
this time our money and energies
could be best used toward winning
the war and that in creating any Is-
sues which might serve to distract
the people or to take up their time
In useless political discussions As
for myself whatever money 1 have
that I can sparo I shall Invest It In
liberty honds
I will make an effort to see each
one of you before election time and
will then outline to you my cam-
paign meanwhile to you who are ac
qualntcd with my past record nnd
are satisfied that I oould fill tho of-
fice to your satisfaction anything
that you may do or any In my be-
half will be welcomed
