REPUBLICAN COUNTY CENTRAL
COMMITTEE
R A Nbirn) Cbnrman Cleo
Give us statehood and tho peo-
ple will reduce their taxes
"The election of Flynn means
statehood for Oklahoma
Neff would be as powerless to
secure statehood as Callahan was
to secure free homes
The need of a bridge across
the Eaglechief was clearly shown
after the rain last week
The Republicans of this dis-
trict will make no mistake in
nominating Alpha Updegratf
With Updegraff and ’ Sniggs in
the legislature the interests -of
Woods county would be protect-
ed and her rights secured
Hon A T S biggs is well qual-
iSed’to represent this district in
the legislature and is too honor-
able to betray the interests' of
the people
An old Populist friend called
on us the other day and gave us
clear- and broad-minded judg-
ment regardless of politics He
picked up our last week’s paper
glanced at the write-up of the
Republican candidates headed
“Our Winning Ticket” and re-
marked that the ticket was a
sure winner He says it is the
best ticket ever presented to the
voters of the county and he ex-
iccts to vote it from top to bot-
tom This is only a sample of
the remarks heard every day
from the Populists The people
want to vote for good clean men
and now have the opportunity
In the coming representative
and council conventions the Re-
publicans of this county should
use as much care and good judg-
ment in the selection of delegates
as they did for the county con-
vention Take time to attend
your primaries and see that the
delegates selected are good men
and straight Republicans men
who would put the success of
the party above personal inter-
ests or factional feeling and nom-
inate the very best men for those
important positions Men should
be nominated on account of their
ability honor and integrity arid
not for any supposed political
obligations The Republican
party is responsible for the acts
of its representatives in the leg-
islature and cannot afford to
nominal’? a candidate who is
either incompetent or u nr--habit
Do your duty as Republicans
and good el? mens
come up with an aspua:': Tabs
convention has h-:reofore bnui
held at Cleo but as each county
has a committeeman the mem-
bers from Blaine and Dewey got
together and out-voted Bro
Bishop and hroated it at Okeene
Bishop is a scrapper for his own
town and made a stiff tight but
was overpowered by numbers
and had to give in after a loug
struggle

The four days the reunion
lasted was a time of peace and
enjoyment for the people of
Woods county On account of
the rains facilitating the tilling
of the soil and hooding the
creeks the attendance tas not
as large as expected but under
the existing circumstances it
was considered a good attend-

Taxes and Statehood
The fall term of the district
court for this county has been
lixed for November 1st which
comes on Thursday and the
grand and petit juries will like
ly be drawn and suinmpned to
appear that day Friday will
probably be taken up most-
ly in empanelling the ‘juries
Tuesday the 6th will be elec-
tion day and the court will un-
doubtedly adjourn on Saturday
till after the election If so
the 24 petit ard 18 grand jurors
will be entitled to mileage for
two trips before any business
can be done as will also the
witnesses sub tuned for the
first week This will mean a
big bill cf useless expense to
be footed by the taxpayers
unless a change is made it al-
so means that Woods county
will have no court to speak of
this fall
It is to be hoped that 'a
change wiil be made so that
our court will not couvmie un-
til aft-r th election is over
and their give us a tutu that
will clear up the docket
'111 s is a practical argument
in favor of statehood The
terms of court ate lixed by the
Supreme court to suit the con
venieru e of the judges If Ok-
lahoma were a -waie the terms
would be fixed by law and the
judges would htv“ to iook to

Gold Standard
The Headlight comes cut
this week inits true colors the
Gold standard yellow filiis
change has been delayed be-
cause there was ho yellow
paper in stock either in Wich-
ita or Kansas City and we lmd
to await an order from the fact-
iff
ory This ’color i has' been
adopted because it suits our
principles and because the
yellow back ground gives a
print that is easily read and
restful to the eyes The paper
is slightly heavier and of better
quality AVe will doubtless be
accused of “Yellow Journal-
ism” but if our readers are as
well pleased with the change
as we anticipate the publish-
ers will be satisfied
