To THE GRADUATE OF '58 '
From the Newark N Y Courler-Gazette:
There is a famous
story about two children who set
out in search for the Bluebird of
Happiness They traveled to many
places o't the world but they
never found it Finally they gave
up their search and returned
home To their great surprise
they found in their own back
yard the Bluebird singing away
loud and clear
The moral of this story to Ameri-
cans is that there is a real touch
of magic all around us—figura-
tively right in our own back yard
One of the easiest ways to dis-
cover it and explore it is by draw-
ing a circle of any radius using
your home as the center point for
the compass Your magic can be
fifty a hundred two hundred
miles in diameter and your magic
carpet to all of the pleasure and
adventure in this circle is your
automobile
From the Webster Times Web-
ster Mass: There has been a lot
of recession talk of late Quite
naturally officials have been
bombarded with suggestions
plans and alternatives Unfortu-
nately the average resident has
neither the time nor the inclina-
tion to digest all of the proposals
We were intrigued by a simple
analysis which arrived at our desk

this week
"There was a mnn who stood by
the road and sold hot dogs He
vas hard of hearing so he had no
radio He had trouble with his
eyes so he read no newspapers
But he sold hot dogs He put up
signs on the highway telling how
good they were He stood by the
side of the road and cried: 'Buy a
Hot Dog mister' and people
bought
"So he increased his meat and
bun orders and he bought a
bigger stove to take care of his
trade Finally his son came back
from college to help him out His
son said 'Father haven't you been
listening to the radio? Haven't
you been reading the newspapers?'
There's a big depression on
"Whereupon the father thought
'Well my son has been to college
he knows everything He reads the
papers He listens to the radio' So
the father cut down on his meat
and butt orders He took down his
advertising signs and no longer
bothered to stand on the highway
and cry out for his hot dogs
"And his hot dog sales fell al-
most overnight 'You're right my
son' the father said to the boy
"There is no use trying to sell
We are in the middle of a da-
p r es s ion' "

REV ROBERT EL
SHIBBOLETH
T HERE is an interesting account
I- of the rout in battle and the
doom that came upon the fleeing
Ephraimites because they could
not say correctly the word Shib-
boleth Every fugitive who said
Shibboleth was slain His inability
to speak the word with a sh sound
betrayed him as one of the enemy
The incident might be cited by
the makers and sellers of diction-
aries to say nothing of the literat-
Li to stress the importance of cor-
rect speech and rightly-spoken
words Eut in the case of the
doomed tribesmen the trouble
ran deeper than slovenly habit
and deficiency of speech due to
unfamiliarity with the language
They had come to their doomod
condition by their enmity and
treachery Their failure to say
Shibboleth correctly coaro m d
their guilt and gave Ahem over to
the sword
May w e be careful of the Inn-
gunge we learn and the thourhts
that sway us day after day For
the evil day may come when we
shall not be able to say the word
that would save us from eternal
death The apostle writes that the
word is nigh us even in our
hearts And like Christian in
the foul and gloomy dungeon of
Giant Despair we can bring out
the key that will unlock all the
dungeon doors in the world
BY LYN CONNELLY
DESPITE stormy weather and
constant warnings by col-
umnists about off-beat material
Jack Parr continues to rule the
midnight roost with a good part
of the country where he is seen
The man is fascinating
Although you hear something one
night that you think has soured
you completely on him you still
keep tuning in if only to see what
he's up to now Except for
Elsa Maxwell who says what she
thinks and what she thinks isn't
fit to discuss even with an adult
audience the show is a likeable
habit and Jack is particularly good
The show is a great springboard
for new talent Budgeted to the
limit big names cannot be booked
so unknowns are picked up and
given their chance It is to the
modern-day comedian what the
burlesque house and vaudeville
was to the old-time comedian
There's only one big difference
On the Paar show the new per-
son is trying out his material for
the first time in front of millions
of people instead of just the hand-
ful a theatre could hold Still
it's a beginning

CAPITOL:—Frank Poured and
that great solo saxophonist Jo
Krasko combine in a superb hi-fi
of life in Paris as lived through
their great instrumentals
While some of the songs are
American the whole mood set is
strictly Parisian and strictly ter
rific for hi-II fans who are always
looking for something "different"
This is different all right
Songs include "All or Nothing at
All" "Kisses" "To My Lover"
"So Many Violins" "When I Fall

"Paris Serenade" "Image"
