MONSTER — Our grandson
Mike had been staying
with us since last April and
this week left for his new
home in Cyril The old home-
stead isn't the same without
his hollering around and toys
scattered all over the place
Yep we miss the little
monster
DiDN'T COUNT — Was go-
ing down the Main Drag
the other day when a car honk-
ed long and loud at me
Mrs Ann Holland driver ex-
plained that her horn had
a 'short and that she'd not
be honking at a fat country
editor
13 IG ONE — Maurice Beard
who lives out California
way visited the Beacon office
Tuesday Maurice is working in
the state printing office and it
has some seven aues of floor
space in the shop We are al-
ways glad to have these big-
time printers visiting our little
shop
DAVING - - We are glad that
1 another We
project is
being worked up fo7 our friend-
ly little city Vici will never
attain its best until every
street and avenue in the town
is paved Things like this add
to property values and the at-
tractiveness to future residents
of the town It always pays for
a man to shave and put on a
clean shirt and it pays for
a town to improve itself
LORMOSA It now appears
I that American youth are
again to be shoved over seas
to fight a war that is not ours
Korea was bad enough when
American boys were sent over
to fight under United Nations
sanction fo- a principle of hu-
manity in Formosa they
will be fighting to protect dol-
lars without the sanction (as
yet) by the United Nations
We just don't think it right
1OATROL -- We think the idea
of using unmarked high-
way patrol cars is a good one
and a thing that would certain-
ly help to cut down on Okla-
homa's high fatality rate
We believe such a plan would
nab many many violators of
traffic rules even to our
own driving because we like
other folk drive just a little
bit more careful when we see
one of those 'Holstein cars'
rOUNTY FAIR — Next week
‘-' the county free fair will be
in full swing at Taloga
everybody in the whole county
should plan to visit the fair
at least one day A county fair
is an excellent place to see
where and how someone else
may be doing a better job than
you are when you are doing
your dead level best
R ODEO -- See where there
IN is a possibility that a fall
rodeo may be held at Vici this
year We hope there is one We
are not a contestant we
throw plenty of bull in this
here kolum
CC110014 NEWS This week
4---) we are carrying the school
news in a special department
If you like this let us know
It is a big and expensive thing
for us and unless there is suf-
ficient readership it will not
pay the Vici Beacon to run it
Let us have your reaction
rHEAP — One of the guys
was quarrelling with us
about hiking the price of a
copy of the Vici Beacon until
we reminded him that it cost
5c per copy when hamburgers
were selling six for a quarter
gasoline was 14c per gallon
sugar 10 pounds for a dollar
It might also be pointed out
that when the Vici Beacon sub-
scription was $100 per year it
took four bushels of wheat (at
25e bushel) to pay for it
sure we hated to hike the per:
copy rate and the subscription
prices but it just had to be
done in these days of increas-
ing prices

Things have been moving

Roy Morford Home
From Hospital Tuesday
Mr and Mrs Roy Morford
returned to their home Tues-
day from Woodward where
they had spent the past four
weeks Mr Morford was patient
in a hospital there for treat-
ment of a broken hip and was
seriously ill for some time
He is reported doing as well
as expected however he will
be bedfast for several weeks
If anyone asks whether you
want to hear his "honest opin-
ion" on a question of dispute
in which you are involved tell
him "No" Keep his friendship

The Vici Future Fa-niers of
America has just finished an
errand of mercy
Tuesday evening the FFA
held a box supper to raise the
needed funds to buy a televi-
sion set for Carl Gregory who
is at the University hospital at
Oklahoma City with an ailment
that will keep him confined for
many months
Considerably more than $100
was raised for the pu7pose
Carl was an active member
of the FFA chapter before he
was stricken with the illness
Vici should be proud of the
FFA chapter and the fine deed
they have accomplished
Sports Club
Releases 700
Gme Birds
The Vici Spo-tsmen Club has
concluded another successful
year of game bird rearing and
have just released the birds in-
to the game fields of the sec-
tion The birds released are 200
ringneck pheasants 320 Bob
White quail and 200 Coturnix
or stubble quail
These birds were furnished
by the Oklahoma Fish and
Game depa-tment as baby
chicks and were reared by the
Vici club who financed the
feeding and caring for the
baby birds
Hunters of the section are
being asked by the Sportsmen
Club to go easy on the shoot-
ing of the pheasants It seems
that at last the pheasants are
beginning to become acclimated
and if the birds are given a
chance it is possible for some
excellent shooting within a
few years

yard here during their absence
There are few in life who
will pass up a betWille to make
a quick dollar -
The Vici - chamber of com-1'
merce is busy working up a!
second paving project within a
yea- for this little city
Earlier this year nine blocks
of paving were put down and
a second project appears likely
to succeed
There are quite a few of the
property owners ready to go
along with the project now
but the success of the project
depends on enough property
owners joining in so that a
truck load of road oil can be
be purchased
The cost of the paving is
being held at the lowest possi-
ble minimum by the coopera-
tion of property owners and the
City of Viei -svorking in con-
junction with the county
Costs are running 30c rr
square yard which makes the
price at $200 per yard where
narrow paving will suffice
and $300 per block where the
wider paving is desired
Where grading and graveling
must be done this cost will be
charged extra however the
most of the streets in the new
project will not require any-
thing other than touching up by
the grader
The time element is import-
ant if the project is to be done
this year There are only about
10 days to work up the project
if the work will be done this
year
Property owners interested
should be working up their
project It will be necessary to
have up the necessary money
and it is suggested that one
property owner represent an
entire block as this will sim-
plify matters greatly

Bride Elect
TV E WERE GOING to write
a column about brides
andor weddings but somehow
we just don't feel up to it this
week One thing tho if we had
written the wedding ritual we'd
have had the mother parade
down the aisle with the bride
and announce she was giving
the bride away Seems to us
letting the old man in for that
part of the show is just to
build up his ego and help him
forget what the event is cost-
ing S IE DAY someone in the
audience is going to take
up the challenge and really
give the bride away That'll
be the one we want to attend
A NOTHER THING we like
1-A is the term "bride elect"
Elected by whom? N t the
groom in 99 out of 100 cases
The little gal did the electing
with maybe the help of her
mama

Hot and Dry
Weather for
Past Week
The past week has been a
hot and dry one hotter by far
than most of the weeks during
mid summer
The thermometer has been
playing in the 85 to 100 degree
margin all week long Nights
have been exceptionally nice
with the range being from 59
to 75
There have been no rains this
week up to the present tixne
Twice there were possibilities
of showers but each time the
storm veered off before reach-
ing this part of the country A
rain is predicted for this week
end And one would be a nice
thing although the country is
not hurting because of drouth
conditions
This section is going to have
One of the best feed crops in
its history
A federal forecast for the
next 30 days says this section
is going to have hotter than
usual and drier than usual

WAYNOKA EDITOR EXPOUNDS THEORY
Sez Who?
friends do all they can helping
the "elected" convince him
that he's a lucky devil and
what a splendid taste he has in
females
A CTUALLY the groom is in
I-1 the way until the ceremony
starts The whole engagement
racket and the wedding cere-
mony is for the benefit of the
bride all planned to show off
the merchandise and the groom
might just as well be off fish-
ing for all he amounts to
I T WOULD be much simpler
to just go ahead without the
bridegroom Let him go fish-
ing and send the minister a
money order and after the
ceremony the bride could join
the groom somewhere on a
honeymoon And as for old
pop he could be off fishing
too until the bride a-rives for
the honeymoon then he could
be shipped back home to mama
The above is from Aaron
Fischers 'Squints' in his paper
It is the sort of thing I've want-
ed to write for years but like
Aaron I never got around to
writing it REC
