Big Liquor Haul
In Green Pastures
One of the biggest liquor
hauls made in many months
was made Sunday in Green
Pastures
Two suspicious looking trucks
were spotted by the pilot of a
highway patrol airplane who
notified ground forces who
hastened to the area and found
three men unloading lugs of
whisky from one truck and load-
ing it into another They con-
fiscated liquor estimated to be
worth $10000 and made three
arrests
Arrested were Harry Ragan
of Nicoma Park and Redford
Hainey and Charles Updegraff
of Oklahoma City They were
charged with possession of
whisky and released on bond
Speech Students
Attend Tournament
Students of the Harrah speech
class attended the Oklahoma
City University tournament last
weekend In the individual events
Harrah won seven first places
four seconds and one third
The play entered by the Har-
rah students "For Whom the
Telephone Rings" placed second
Included in the cast were An-
gela Fillmore Donna McMillan
Ann Phillips Evelyn Hunt Lyn-
del Harrell and Dennis Rober-

The Harrah P-TA meeting
scheduled for Thursday evening
has been changed to Friday

provided Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company proposed to
convert the Green Pastures ex-
change to dial operation and in
elude the above described area
in its Nicoma Park Zone of the

A petition asking permission
to make the change will be
heard by the corporation com-
mission March 4
An average of 25 motorists
are arrested every day for fail-
ure to have a proper state
driver license
Del City Youth
Dies In Accident
Danny Pierce 15 son of 'Mr
and Mrs J R Pierce of Del
City was fatally hurt Friday
night when a car in which he
was riding overturned into a
ditch south of his home town
He was pinned beneath the car
ond was dead on arrival at
Mercy hospital
He was a passenger in a car
driven by James Henry Cunning-
ham 14 of 3701 Epperly dr
Trooper Gene Blackburn said
the car had passed over a small
bridge when it went out of con-
trol and overturned in the
ditch
Cunningham was not injured

School Library
The Harrah Highschool Libr-
ary is indeed a place where
groups of students work quiet-
ly and profitably
Seventy-nine new books have
been purchased both fiction and
non-fiction Several new refer-
ence books have been secured
including World Book Encyclo-
pedia 1958 edition several new
dictionaries Abriged Readers'
Guide Basic Book Selection and
others
Mrs Roma Hipp and Mrs El-
bert Mitchell are Librarians
one being on duty at all hours
The door is never closed even
during the noon hour Mrs Hipp
and Mrs Mitchell attended an
extension class in Library Sci-
ence the first semester Mrs
Hipp has seventeen hours of
Library Science above her Mas-
ter's degree Mrs Mitchell has
twenty hours above her Master's
degree
The student librarians are:

Shockey Each has been provid-
ed with an assistant's handbook
They will take a test on it at
the close of school

So far this year 180 have been
borrowed A daily circulation
record is kept Some days as
many as 47 books are checked
out They include both fiction
and non-fiction
Mrs Hipp's junior and senior
classes have spent two weeks in
the library gathering material
for their term papers
Each class in English has
finished a Unit on Library Science
Calf Kidnapped
In Dark Of Night
One evening last week Liz-
zie a cow at the Ernest Wolfe
dairy farm near Jones gave
birth to a heifer calf Before
retirement Don Chase made
the rounds and "mother" and
"daughter" were doing fine
The next morning Lizzie was
in the lot but the calf was
missing Various ideas were
thought of as to what could
have happened to the calf
Finally Ernest checked with
Aaron M ur r a y adjoining
dairyman and his men report-
ed one of Aaron's cows also
had a calf the night before
On more careful check it was
discovered that Aaron's heifer
had coaxed Lizzie's calf under
the barbed wire and claimed
her as her own
home Entered
The home of Mrs Josephine
Ilussell Harrah was broken
'nto early Monday night while
the family was away Entrance
was made by tearing off a
window screen Some money
was reported missing along
with other things An ice pick
was found in the yard presum-
ably used to unfasten the
screen The back screen door
also had holes torn in it

taw to help Mr Whisenant
celebrate his 100th birthday A
family dinner will be held at
noon and open house from 2
to 6 pm
Mr Whisenant who is a re-
tired farmer was born in La-
fayette county Mississippi in
1859 He has lived in the Choc-
taw and Jones vicinity since
1907 and is a member of the
Choctaw Methodist church
Friends of Mr Whisenant are
invited to attend the open house

For Lion's Attack
A suit to force payment of
claims against a Rhode Island
insurance company for injuries
esulting from an attack by a
?ircus lion was filed in federal
court at Oklahoma City
Howard Suesz Edmond own-
er of the IIagan Bros circus
contends Newfoundland Ameri-
can Insurance Co is liable for
an accident at Alice Texas
Jaruary 18 Suesz said an 8-
year-old girl Nikki Knowles
was severely injured when a
lioness pulled the younghter's
arm inside the cage
The insurance representatives
have refused the claim on
grounds the circus was in win1(-”
quarters at the time which
rclieves Newfoundland o f li-
ability However Suesz points out
that quarters for the circus are

Accidental Gun
Victim Is Dead
David Mier 17 of near Choc-
taw died last Wednesday even-
ing in Mercy hospital following
a shooting accident
After school hours filer had
gone to the home of Tommy
Lee Hackett at 1339 Fairmont
and the boys were preparing to
go hunting
"We were going to go hunt-
jug" Hackett sobbed when
questioned by officers "I put
a shell in the gun and closed
the bolt and the gun discharg-
ed automatically David was
standing about five feet away
and it hit him in the upper part
of the thigh"
The Mier boy died 30 minutes
after reaching the hospital
The death certificate said M-
ier was accidentally wounded by
15-year-old Tommy Lee Hackett
Lawsuit Filed
Over Bank Loot
A lawsuit has been filed in
federal court at Oklahoma City
involving the money 'stolen from
the First State Bank at Har-
rah and the bank at Dale Trial
has been set for March 4
Judge Stephen Chandler fixed
the trial date during a pre-
trial hearing involving plaintiff
Maryland Casualty Co and the
defendants Pacific Finance Co
and Associates Discount Corp
both of Oklahoma City
R L "Dick" Dugger attor-
ney for Maryland Casualty said
two men later convicted of the
bank robberies used part of the
stolen money to pay auto mort-
gages at Pacific Finance and
Associates Discount
Dugger said the alleged trans-
action took place in a Dallas
Texas hotel room shortly after
the Harrah holdup November 5
One of the bandits William
Maryland Casualty incurance
carrier for both banks paid
claims totaling $32500 to cover
losses sustained in the armed
robberies
