HAVE YOU HEARD?
Dad Has His Day
A ramble about the square convinced me I have been
making a horrible error these last few months Heavens
how could I overlook the gentleman! Mom never has
worn the classie Harris tweeds the sporty slacks and the
jaunty straw bonnets that Pop dons daily for his hop
skip and jump down to the post office and on to the
"grind" Now has she? And yet hardly a week goes

HOUSE and

By MARY E DAME
Author of "Sister Mary's Kitchen"
Of course we can put up fruits
without sugar and if we add a bit
of lemon juice to red fruits and a 1
few grains of salt to white and yel-
low toned fruits the color of the
pack won't be inferior Obviously
the flavor of canned fruits is vastly
improved by the addition of sugar
and we may find it possible to
sweeten the fruit when we open it
for table use next winter
Honey and corn syrup can be
used in place of sugar for straight
canning and preserving but in jel-
ly making some sugar must be
used with either honey or corn
syrup Use honey or syrup full
strength for preserves make a
syrup with water for canning and
follow a tested recipe for propor-
' lions in jelly making
In substituting corn syrup for
sugar you will need 112 cups corn
syrup for 1 cup of sugar
Ordinarily I cup of honey equals
I cup of sugar
