Cas Compay Wants Raise
It has come at last The Yale
Natural Gas Company is asking
that a raise in rates for gas for
domestic purposes be allowed
then The following letter re-
ceived from the company by Maj-
or Manlove is self explanatory:
January 6 1922
Mr L G Manlove Mayor
Yale Oklahoma
Dear Sir:
Since talking with you almost
a' year tvo in regard to the nee-
sfsity ef increasing the domestic
as rates in Yale we have Leen
bcping that the indvtrial sit-
uaticn would so adjuq itself as
to permit the sale of commercial
1as again in such quan:ties as
would make it unnecessary to
raise the dorneqic rate but buch
has not Ucen the case in fact the
industrial situation as rearcls
selling gas has grown wor-e
from month to month until fit
this time we are selliny practi-
cally no gas to re:ineries or for
drilling purposes and we can no
longer postpone the increase of
the domestic rates our company
having already lost $291287 in
the year 1920 and $789155 in
the eleven months of 1921 end-
ing November 30th
There are ways of going about
securing an increase one is for
the gas company and its cwto-
mers to agree on a rate and
the Corporation Commission for
its approval: the other is to have
a valuation of our property made
and ask the Corporation Com-
mission for a rate that will give
us an adequate return on the
value of the property used
Valuations made on many gas
plants over the State have re-
sulted in rates of from 50c to 90c
per M cu ft and we believe
that a valuation of our property
would show that a rate of about
50c per M would be justificable:
Such a valuation would cost us 1'
perhaps $200000 and we would
prefer to reach an agreement
with our customers on a rate
satisfactory to both parties and
we propose to you a 35c net rje
per M cu ft with 5c per M
added if not paid by the 10th of
the month This rate we be-
lieve would be the lowest dom-
estic gas rate in Oklahoma to-
day The industrial rate to re-
main the same
We have sold domesic gas in
Yale since February -10th 1914
at 25c per M cu ft having made i
no increases during the War'
Although the price of gas at the
well has increased during that
period from 2c to 1112c per M
Cu ft
Please take this matter up with
your citizens and advise us as t6
their wishes and if the rate cf
35c is agreeable we Nvill file an
application with the Commission
at once to make the new rate
effective on the January bills
Yours very truly
YALE NATURAL GAS CO
By W II Tippett President
Monday night January 9 the
executive committee of the Yale
Chamber of Commerce the com-
missioners and the city manager
met at the City Ilan and after
some discussion of the matter it
was referred to the City com-
missioners with instructions to
do what in their minds Nvai best
for the city and the citizens
therein
Practically every man who was
in attendance at this meeting
was acquainted with the fact
that rates are being raised in
practically every town and city
in the State and that Yale has
enjoyed an exceptionally low
rate and the most excellent ser-
vice and under thee conditions
felt that the asking of this raise
was not unreasonable
The only question that was
raised in the matter was that of
predating the raise Mot ef
those present were of the opin-
ion that it wa3 not the best pol-
icy that the consumer thould
have some chance at the guy-
lion as to lactlor or not Le
