eleven baby bald eagles in the Se-
quoyah Wildlife Refuge last Wed-
nesday Shcrly Tatom Rearing and Repro-
duction Spccahs' said “that the eggs
w here brought from Florida and incu-
bated and hatched in Bartlesville
The eggs arc taken early in the sea-
son so that the birds in Florida will
recycle and lay another nest of eggs
Tins way the birds in Florida will re-
produce and replenish their area too

Ranger said “that we arc trying to
introduce the Florida species of the
Bald Eagle to our area as they do not
migrate outof their area Sofartwoof
the Egales have stayed in this area
Unfortunately one went into Arkan-
sas and was shot and killed last
month He also added that about 30 of
die Eagles have been released in this
area Hcflebower said ‘That the last
w inter Eagle count for the refuge was
80" The problem is that they do not
stay in here to raise their young and
reproduce but go to the Great Lake
Region to do so It is hoping that the
Florida Eagc will raise its young in
Oklahoma as it tolerates the heal
belter

was sxtted in the Lake Superior area
and went into Canada

birds have about dieir full body sic
now but the longer bigger fcadicrs
will be obtained later
Before die bars arc lowered the
birds will be fitted widi a radio trans-
mitter that will enable the Center to
keep track of the flight and where-
abouts of the Eagles The transmit-
ters will be strapped to the birds back
and will last for about six weeks It
will fall off later
Tatom said “ that die birds do not
get their white head and tail feathers
unul they arc around four years old

Rabies Suspected
in Stray Dog
Local residents were advised to use
extreme care about the handling of
stray dogs in the community Mon-
day as Chief of Police J W Partain
reported an apparent rabid dog on
Saturday
Answering die call to check a pecu-
liarly acting dog at 9 30 a m Satur-
day Chief Partain reported the ani-
mal to be disoriented eyes matted
and as dicy approached die animal
attackcJ die police car
The County Health Department
adv ised that die animal be buried and
urged dial residents “must report”
any strange-acting animals in the in-
terest of safety

Singers From Eastern Okla
Gather at Vian Saturday
Vian will serve as the host city for
Oklahoma’s Eastern Half Singing
Convention Saturday afternoon
April 9
Local City Council member Henry
Harris who is a regular attender of
singing conventions across the nation
says “We’re fortunate to have to
so great a gathering in our commu-
nity and I’m hoping Sequoyah
Countians will pour into the High
School Auditorium all 00 p m Satur-
day to hear some of the best gospel
singing and music ever heard”
Others who have been active in die
conventions across the slate are the

Sisters Quartet and Mr and Mrs Cy

Board were present for their monthly
meeting Monday evening at 7 (X)
p m w hen teachers were rchired and
various proposals for conducting the
next year’s term were considered

Victim of
Car Crash
Lisa Morris 24 of Vian died Mon-
day when the car she was riding in
collided with a pickup on a Cherokee
County road the Oklahoma Highway
Patrol said today
Morris daughter of Mr and Mrs
Monroe Girty was the wife of Aaron
Morris 26 die driver of their car in
the accident She was pronounced
dead at the scene of the crash which
occurred at about II (X) a m tnxrpers

1 he Morris's 2 year old son Joshua
was Liken to St Trancis Hospital in
Tulsa in critical condition and Aaron
was reported in gocxl condition at a
Tahlequah hospital the patrol said

mately 28 years of Vian was stabbed
on Saturday April 2 Acc ordmg to his
father Denver Young Sr his son
was subbed between the heart and
lung The stabbing oct urred at the
boy's home in the driveway
Denver Jr was transferred to Se-
quoyah Memorial 1 lospiul by private
vehicle and was later transferred by
ambulance to Sparks Regional Medi-
cal Center where he underwent
extensive surgery
Although Young Sr claims there
are two suspects in the case no
