PAGE 2--VIAN NEWS Wednesday Feb 17 1988
Joe’s Col’m
First helper of the week
was Marie Trammell of Rt
1 Vian calling us early
Monday morning to say
former resident Leona
Lamb would like to receive
the NEWS
It’s not idle talk when we
say with your cooperation
we’ll have a good paper
Thanks Marie! We’ll get
Leona on the mailing list at
once Possibly there are
other readers who would
like to tell their friends out
of the area about the
NEWS Remember it’s
just $15 per year and
would be a welcome gift to
former residents
Leona will get her paper
at Rt 3 Box 125 Medford
OK 73759
Ann Hogan followed right
behind Marie to say she has
news for us about the night
classes available in adult
education We’ve tried to
convince you all that you
can call 773-8000 and help
us with the news Look for
what Ann has furnished us
in this issue
Tim Firestone says the
fish are biting
He reports a couple of
nice bass Sunday wife
Karen scored too but
think son Brian laid them
all in the shade with a nice
string of crappie
Carol Ann Johnson says
she received a letter to the
editor from Charles
McFarland formerly of
Gore now of Kingwood
TX We’re sending him a
copy of this week’s news so
that he can see Jane King is
our editor and our Mrs
Joe Johnson is Martha not
Carol Ann
Hazel Phillips gets a
bhass rinprom our Merry-Go-Round
also cause she
called us to tell us the
names of our best spellers
in Vian Junior High
Mrs JC Wooten of Gore
says she might shop around
and see if she can find us a
regular correspondent in
Gore Tamara Phillips has
done a super job reporting
on basketball games and
Til bet Tamara keeps on
telling the great happen-
ings at Gore Jams Carter
says surely there’ll be
some news but it can’t top
the excitmg ball season
just completed
Thelma Rolsten was
given the title of ELH
Reporter for her reporting
the comings and goings at
East Lake Hills When a
headline on her story about
a bus trip for Bingo refer-
red to ladies only she cor-
rected us and said the
fellows went too
Lynel Perry was m the
NEWS office to pick up his
business cards He men-
tioned he may have his flea
market for Memorial Day
weekend Watch your
NEWS for details and
dates
John Orrison paid us a
high compliment He told
Editor Jane “Your little
paper is the only one that I
read every word of”
Our goal is to have a good
community newspaper
Your help and constructive
criticisms will be ap-
preciated Rose Holder dropped by
yesterday to subscribe for
her Mom Nellie Liston of
Gore She said “Mom real-
ly likes that little paper!”
So we send word to Mom
Liston call us collect at
773-8000 if you know of news
from Gore we should have
Rose’s father-in-law
takes a lot of heat as a
public servant serving on
Vian’s City Council Hav-
ing served in a public posi-
tion I may be a little more
understanding about what
an elected official goes
through and I would guess
that even Rose and her hus-
band Gordon hear about
city politics
Whch brings me to quite
a little flap about im-
provements to the city jail
in this week’s NEWS
There have been many
questions raised about the
expenditures and the way
they’ve been made This
column will team with the
mayor and Police Commis-
sioner Holder and Police
Chief and say the repairs
are probably needed Any
upgrading will make us a
better community
But isn’t it something of
a joke to say the Police
Chief will pay for them
from his own pocket? I’ve
been trying to stick the
chief for a cup of coffee
since I came to town but I
don't think he should have
to try to finance jail im-
provements What do you
think?
