Joe’s Col’m
MARTHA Arlene
Jane and I are very
proud of our new quarters
on Blackstone Street next
door to the Vian Nutrition
Center Come see us!
There is no way we
could properly thank Dick
Chambers sufficiently for
the hours of quality car-
penter work he did getting
us ready to move in and
in the actual moving and
cleaning up an old Elk
Trustee Tim Firestone
came to our rescue
Fellows I owe you one
for this!
We hope to have an open
house soon and invite you
in just for a visit
Remember the projects
we had written about to
improve our area? Would
you believe no one has
volunteered to try to help
to:
A--Put up street signs in
Vian
B--Keep notices going
out of community im-
provements in a beauti-
fication project
C-Name rural roads in
the west end of the county
and
D-Head up the drive for
a Vian City Library
It's probably not that no
work is being done on
those projects-but just
that word has not gotten
out We’re going to try to
get that communication
started

fulness this week goes to

lady at the post office she
had not seen before and
noted the distress of
forgetting her purse at

“No problem” Helen
says and she promptly put
up the money for the new

Only in our small com-
munity could that happen

Fred Gossett called the
NEWS to report the
answer to the question last
week pertaining to “Who
Named the Wolverines?”
Fred says he believes he
is the only living team
member of 1931-1932 It
was then that all teams
started naming them-
selves after animals
Fred says they decided
as a team They were pret-
ty mean and tough and so
they wanted a pretty mean
and tough name The
animal "Wolverine” had
not been used that thev
knew of so someone made
the motion and it was
seconded and away those
Wolverines ran
Thanks for the info

LETTERS
TO THE
EDITOR
Editor
I want to know why the
City Police Department
don’t have a police report
on Levi Sequichie's death
And I also would like to
know why the doctor that
examined him said that he
had tobacco in his mouth
when he never smoked or
dipped tobacco in his life
If they have an answer I
want them to step for-
ward He was a highly
decorated soldier in World
War II In fact he was the
only highly decorated
soldier in World War II
that was from Vian
Name withheld on re-
quest Ed Note:
On checking with Vian
Chief of Police JW Par-
tain he said “A police
report is not made on a
person found dead in Vian
if they appear to have died
of natural causes”
He mentioned that
someone just came and
got him as he was dose by
and informed him of the
death of Mr Sequichie
‘‘Vian Police Depart-
ment does not make
reports unless they are
dispatched by the dispat-
cher then the dispatcher
makes the report” Par-
tain added

Editor
Eighteen months ago I
was indicted along with
four other people by a Se-
quoyah grand jury This
grand jury cost the tax-
payers of Sequoyah Coun-
ty over $10000 Since that
time four of us have been
cleared of all charges
At this time I want to
thank all of my family
and friends for standing
by me throughout this
ordeal the loss of visi-
tation with my children
the loss of my job the
burning of my home by
unknown persons not to
mention the loss of my
reputation
There has been a lot of
publicity about my case
Since there has been NO
publicity about the out-
come I would like to in-
form everyone that on Fri-
day October 30th 1987 a
Sequoyah County Jury
found me innocent on all
charges
I don’t understand how
the media can prosecute a
person and not follow up
on their reporting of the
results
My attorney Dan
George deserves my
special thanks for his ex-
cellent defense
Sincerely
George F Warren

Teaspoons Short
One of our problems was
solved last week the tea-
spoon supply had not filled
the demand for a long
time Instead of bemoan-

We used it to provide fun
and jokes-especially on
soup days
The jokes were growing
mighty weak when two
thoughtful participants
donated thirty new spoons
